Music on Seinfeld

The Outing episode contains what would appear to be the first reference to the characters' taste in popular music -- Jerry's comment on the Bette Midler CD, apparently a gag based on the stereotype that gay men like Bette. It struck me that as much Jerry et al. discuss TV, cartoons, and comics, we haven't heard anything much about their musical tastes. Interestingly, they attended a real opera and read real books (Tropic of Cancer), but attend fictional films ("Ponce deLeon" and "Rochelle Rochelle"). They drink real soft drinks (Snapple) but drink fictional liquor (Hennigans). Real TV (Murphy Brown), real cartoons (Tiny Toons), real comics (Superman -- hey, there's a new Superman magnet on Jerry's fridge! A tribute to his recent "death"?). It just seems odd that for characters who appear to be immersed in pop culture, we know little about their musical tastes. Any guesses what each character would listen to? I bet Kramer likes Capt. Beefheart, Yma Sumac, the Residents, Jonathan Richman, and Buck Owens. I hope we don't have a situation like one often sees on TV where a character suddenly loves some artist because that person will be on the show. For example, I recall an episode of "Family Ties" in which Michael Keaton's character had a college radio show devoted exclusively to the blues, which was never mentioned before that or afterward, and the reason was a guest appearance by Brownie McGhee and Sonny Terry. Completely out of character for MJFox's role to listen to that kind of music, I thought.
