Funny but flawed Or Flawed But Funny?

Last night the show stretched itself. After being on for 8 years no one can accuse it of playing safe. This should be taken into account by those who wish to make critical comments about the show. I myself, am one of those who wish to make a few quibbles.

One triumpth of the endless flashback mode was that it allowed a nonghostly Susan to make a return appearence on the show. And apart from the creative gimmick of the endless flashback was the return of the "Braless Wonder." For this we should be thankful.

Also, the flashback mode allowed us to see the first meeting of Jerry & Kramer, an event that a more conventional episode wouldn't have allowed or needed. The surreal aspect was the fact that on least two occasians the humor not only survived but was enhanced by having the punchline precede the joke.

Parts of it lacked credibility, for example the idea that the "Braless Wonder" would have Elaine as a maid of honor or that she would break of the marrige when she found out that in a previous incarnation (Before the Hindu meet her) Elaine had sleep with the groom. Did the "Braless Wonder" think she was marrying a virgin? One last item on the debit side: By flashing back it papers over missing parts. However, this might by some be considered the proof of the genius of the show. After all very few people are going to deconstruct the episode on their computer (or their minds) and reassemble the show front to back in order to find the missing pieces,

This in my not so humble opinion trumps the "Bizzaro Jerry" episode for surreal humor.

I think that showed how many friends the "Braless Wonder" had. :) Also, although it was a bit of a stretch, her calling off the wedding demonstrated how much she lost respect for her husband when she learned of him sleeping with Elaine.

To add to my post, the "Braless Wonder" was very embarrassed when George yelled out that Elaine slept with the groom (the guests, including "The Braless Wonder", probably assumed he meant recently) . Maybe the "Braless Wonder" didn't believe Elaine about their ancient history, but thought she had gone behind her back. There's always been tension between the two, and maybe she loathed the idea of having Elaine sleep with her husband, even if it was years ago. The whole event was typical of the "Braless Wonder", regardless of what really happened.

Actually, this was *extremely* credible. No one else came to her wedding, and she was forced to ask Elaine to be the maid of honor. Elaine was forced to say yes, I mean, she did come all tht way to the wedding. If she refused, it would just show that she had come all that way just to spite Sue Ellen. Besides, at an emotional time like a wedding, if no one came, you'd want *anyone* to stand beside you as your maid of honor.

I'm not sure tht the wedding was called off (I think it was), but you can see why that might be. Sue Ellen was used to beating Elaine at everything. High school boyfriends, money, breasts :) She definitely sees herself as superior to Elaine. (Reference the remark she made to Elaine at the auction about coming to see how the wealthy live or something like that.) So if it was publically announced at the wedding, that Elaine (her maid of honor) had slept with her fiance, and given the dislike betweent he two anyway, I can see how that would lead to the wedding being called off.

About the maid of honor thing, maybe it was just a sudden change of heart because Elaine actually went to India for the wedding (and none of her other friends did, so she needed someone to fill the slot).

About Sue Ellen breaking off the marriage after finding out that Elaine slept with her soon to be husband, I, for one, think that was TOTALLY believable. Look at the history Elaine and Sue Ellen have had. Sue Ellen was always stealing all the attention away from Elaine in high school. So when she found out that Pinter had slept with Elaine, she didn't want him anymore because there was no reason for Elaine to be jealous, because she'd already *had* him. Elaine and Sue-Ellen are adversaries, kind of like Jerry and Newman, but more subtle. Jerry didn't want to go out with the girl who used to go out with Newman, even though he liked her and thought she was gorgeous. He just couldn't get past the fact that she and Newman had been together and Newman had broken up with her.

Besides, we don't know that they didn't end up getting married. In the first scene in the coffee shop, nobody said that the wedding didn't take place.

You are exactly right, in my opinion. I knew there would be a woman's signature at the end after reading this far. NO ONE had come to her wedding. A girl like SuEllen *must* have a maid of honor. (What sorority did that girl pledge?) How cool to have such a complex relationship between women shown on Seinfeld.

Maybe not, but I think it was anger at the moment when she learned it, which is understandable. It doesn't mean they won't have a talk and patch things up. I thought that situation was pretty believable.

Indeed, I think it was pretty ingenious. I've taped the show and watched it a few times already, and all of it makes perfect sense. Many scenes are actually much funnier the second time around.

All in all, a great episode IMO. Probably the best in the last 2 years (maybe along with the Yadda, Yadda).
