Goof or Newman's first name?

The subject of "goofs" has been posted lately. What about the cry of the farmer's daughter, Susan, in The Bottle Deposit as Kramer and Newman flee for their lives? Was she supposed to yell "Newman" because she definiteley screamed "Norman" as they fled into the corn. Is it a goof or is"Norman" Newman's first name?

Okay I'll accept the fact that she might have made a mistake in saying the name, but why didn't they simply do a voice-over and have her say "Newman". If they took the time to reshoot certain scenes just for syndication involving Geroge's father, then they certainly could have taken the time to voice-over this mistake. I think the possiblity exists that "Norman" was what was supposed to be said and that Newman does have a first name- NORMAN!

Yes, they certainly could have. However, they didn't want to in this case because they preferred it the way it was.

Jerry has said in interviews that Newman's first name is not supposed to be Norman, and explained why the girl said what she did, and why they left it in the show.

I always thought that Norman was intentional. Maybe the implication was that Newman gave her a false name. Maybe the writers were poking fun at superficial one-night stands. Maybe they were trying to sharpen the contrast between urban and rural (cityslicker says Newman, hayseed hears Norman).

On the other hand maybe it was a blooper.

The reason why Norman was used was to show that the woman who allegedly loved newman did not even know his name. This was scripted to appear comical.

"Norman" was not scripted. It was a mistake on the part of the actress, but it made the scene funnier so they kept it in. Jerry has spoken about this during interviews.

when she called him norman i took it as a dig on ditzy blonds.....saying she loved him but didn"t even know his name...is it possible its what the writers were trying to infer???

i agree with wylou i've always thought that the farmers daughter was suppposed to be ditzy

Didn't Wayne Knight confirm that it was a goof that Jerry decided to leave in the episode as aired, because it added a little extra humor to the ending?
