I thought sure in the end Jerry would wake up. He seemed so ho-hum about being arrested and going to court... and all the why nots... Like why didn't NBC deliver a team of lawyers and Why weren't any of the witnesses cross examined ??
Maybe he'll wake up in the 20 year reunion movie/show.

I look as the trial/jail scenes as a dream sequence that happened to Jerry is plane was dropping from the sky and that the plane crashed and they all died. It helps me justify such a rotten episode and that they won't be back in a year. I also look at the trial as a great reason to have spectacular Teri Hatcher back.

I can see the reunion show. Jerry wakes up -- "Boy, I just had the most unbelievable nightmare!" And then "real life" starts recreating his dream. Kramer goes to the beach. . . NBC picks up the series. . . they go to Paris, but have to make an emergency landing in a small Massachusetts town. . . and Jerry is getting more and more worked up as things get more and more like his "nightmare". . . .
