Great Group! The 11/3 episode really had me on the floor, but this being my first post to this newsgroup, I gotta ask,

What's the deal with the Banana Nut Crunch(tm)?

I mean, I'm all for doing whatever you have to in order to finance a show that doesn't yet have viewer appeal, but direct product placement in Seinfeld!? A show that already has the advertisers eating out of its hand? I'm not sure I really care for product billboards scattered around my favorite sitcoms in addition to the commercial breaks, but in all fairness it was quite a long opening segment before the first break.

I've seen it before (in Seinfeld), but never so blatantly. Disturbing trend, missed joke or FAQ?

Seinfeld has had a history of doing that actually... and they've always been blatant. there was a time when just about every episode someone would ask, "Snapple?" (The Virgin episodes mainly) I always thought it was amusing myself, and I've not once run right out there to buy snapple -or- banana double crunch--I wonder, does that make me a disloyal fan? *SOB* >

No, but you all really should try Banana Nut Crunch. It's addictive.

Yes, but product placement on Seinfeld at least used to be amusing. The whole "Snapple-too fruity" and--what were they?--Drake's cakes?--bits were parodies of product placement. Now, they're just flat out doing it by putting a box of Banana Nut Crunch or Elaine's can of Diet Coke in the exact center of the screen. I guess it's supposed to be subliminal advertising for the unobservant; in any case, it's annoying as hell.
