Product placement in the S show

We all know how the Seinfeld show turned product placement a bit upside down by dangling products in our faces rather than pretending that they just happened to be there.

And we have also seen how the fab four occasionally mocked those same products, and in general took great liberties with how they presented the stuff.

Many of us did not experience the show on location, in the same period it was first shown. We do not have the original references to these products and we did not take part of whatever comments appeared in the media at the time.

I would love to see some comments on the subject from those who were there.

Was the product placement methods revolutionary? Did the show have unusual liberties with products? Did someone get pissed off?

I believe there is already a list of products. Fine as a backbone. I'd like some meat on it.

Didn't they do both, however? I'm reminded of the odd choice of Henry Weinhard's beer on the kitchen counter while Jerry and his "wife" fight over where the can opener might happen to be.

Certainly all the candies were interesting presentations, the O'Henry bar in particular, if indeed that was product placement.

I have to say I found the Snapple references blatant and annoying at the time.

That said, I hope Postum enjoyed its boost in sales.

My theory has always been that there was very little or no product placement. Snapple sounds "funny"; like the letter 'k'.

A couple exceptions to my theory: The Bose radio in Elaine's apartment and possibly the Saab car. The Saab made no sense at all to me and seemed out of character for someone like Jerry.

Maybe. Try my game for just a few of the producs placed in the series. It's big money for the producers. Some were mentioned just to add to the local new York City character of the show.. but a lot of others...

George eating Rold Gold pretzels was more than just coincidence.

The letter 'k'? Where do you come off comparing the letter 'k' to all other letters? You know, the letter 'k' is not American...

The show's handling of Snapple is obviously one that I had in mind here. For quite many episodes there is a lot of offering and happy accepting and drinking of it. And then there is Elaine's sudden turning down of another bottle with a grimace and a loud yaach (sp?)

I assume someone got paid for having Snapple there so often?
