One Year Sabbatical: "...and then we'll be back."

Think about the line. "We'll be out in a year......and then we'll be back".

"And then we'll be back"???? That makes no sense for the characters of Seinfeld. They'll be back *where*?? Back in Latham? Back in New York? It just isn't a line that fits with the story or the characters. So, "They" means the actors. The *actors* will be back.

My theory is that the four of them discussed the possibility of returning for a true "final" season. Think of the money for them? The ratings? They put that line in as hint. Just like Kramer saying in the beginning, "Do you smell that? There's something in the air." There was 'bullshit' in the air. The 'bullshit' being this *fake* series finale. It's not really the finale.

One year off, and then Larry David returns as a writer. They have they're best season ever ending with them finally getting the "Jerry" show going. It will close with them doing the actual first scene from the pilot, with the "buttons" conversation. Elaine and Kramer will be there watching the filming of it and it will pull away and fade to black.

It'll be PERFECT.

It would be really weird for me to not watch Seinfeld for a whole year, then one day, click on the TV and see a whole new episode with them and it would be like the finale never happened. But that would never happen, so I don't even know why I'm posting this.

Overall, though, I don't think it will happen, even though I think it would be nice.

My thought exactly! If they were staying within character and within the story line it would have been ".....and then we'll be out," or "....and then we'll be free," NOT "...and then we'll be BACK!" Why hasn't anyone in the media even commented on this????? Or asked a cast member about it at some point since the finale?????

Girl - get a hold of yourself. Many people (including the media) couldn't believe that Seinfeld was ending his show. People were in such disbelief that rumors started that this wasn't really the end. People just started to get desperate. How could he pass up $5 million per episode for the new season? Well he did.

This was a way to poke fun at all the hype. This is exactly what they wanted you to think. It's a sarcastic joke - not that there's anything wrong with that. The media hasn't caught on because there's nothing to catch on to. I know it's sad that we're losing our favorite show but it's not coming back. Besides..."we'll be back" also refers to being back into society. The one that the judge took them out of...

No...didn't they say that it wasn't a "We're only kidding" finale? And if everything worked out perfectly, then the finale would have been similar to the ending of "Newhart," just that Jerry Seinfeld would wake up in a hospital, with Larry David looking over him.

I liked my idea not nearly as much as this one.

I think we're all a little more sad because it didn't end in the apartment.

But that will never happen.

I agree. Jerry said, "We'll be out in a year." That was natural but then he added "Then we'll be back." That was not a natural dialogue for the characters. I think he was referring to the show. Maybe they are going to try to pull a Michael Jordan. Or maybe he is just trying to stir up controversy.

Another season? As Paul Reiser would say, "Not gonna happen, my friend." It was their splendid way of parodying the hype over the finale to spoof the fact that they'd be back. If Jerry had any real plans to come back, why would he have turned down NBC's bazillions for a 10th season in the first place? The mere fact that so many people think they hinted about another season, to me, is evidence of one of the series' most brilliant points -- that it was a "show about nothing" that could lampoon ANYTHING.

The only thing that sucked worse than the finale is your whacked out idea about another season.

Put the crackpipe down.
