Curb Your Enthusiasm

Howdy people.

I was in Los Angeles last week (I live in the UK normally), and I saw a show (on HBO I think) called Curb Your Enthusiasm. It's apparently being touted as the 'new Seinfeld'. Anyway, I thought it was pretty good, and could be very good indeed once you've got a handle on the characters. Oh, and Jason Alexander was in it playing himself.

Just wondered what other people here who've seen more of it than me think about it? Is it, indeed, worthy of being called the new Seinfeld?

No it's not the new Seinfeld because it doesn't have the broad appeal Seinfeld had, it's not on a major network, and it's too edgy for most people to like it. It's not as funny as Seinfeld, CYE is limited by the one camera used and is basically a one man show.

Larry David, the cocreator, writer, and executive producer of Seinfeld(and the voice of George Steinbrenner), stars in Curb Your Enthusiasm. I find the show hilarious and very Seinfeldesque, besides Jason Alexander who has been on two episodes this season, Julia Louis-Dreyfus was on an episode last season, and will be on next week's episode.

Curb Your Entusiasm is on a premium cable station(consumer pay for that station, beyond the basic cable package), which limits the audience. I read somewhere that the average audience is about 4.9 million housheholds(or people, I can't recall). The fact that the show is on a premium channel frees it from the constraints of network standards involving, language and sexual content. Seinfeld is a unique show that can't be duplicated, Curb Your Enthusisasm is the closest show to Seinfeldo n televison today, but it's not the same, and never will be.

I like it and the influence on Seinfeld is clearly seen. However, I think that Larry's neuroticism is either funny to people or obnoxious.
