Michael Richard's new show

Does anyone know what the new NBC show with Michael Richards is about? Couldn't find much info.

Did anybody see Richard's movie he did with Bill Pullman? I laughed and I laughed. If he keeps to the things he did best in Seinfeld, I'm sure he'll do well.

Richards was also in "UHF," the Weird Al Yankovic movie, and he was funny in that. (I was one of the dozen people who saw the movie).

I have UHF on tape! I'm hoping to find it on DVD some day, but I think the chances of that are remote.

He was in a movie with Bill Pullman? I know he was in Trial and Error with Jeff Daniels. Is that what you were thinking of, or was he in a Pullman movie too?

Imagine a mix of Cosmo Kramer and Inspector Clouseau, and you've got it. It's a situation comedy. He plays an off the wall private eye. We'll get to see the results in the fall, Tuesday night at 8 PM(ET) on NBC.

The promos are already on the air in the United States, don't really show too much and don't look all that promising. But promos often don't give a good indication of what a show will be like. I've seen shows with sharp promotion turn out to be lame, and shows with poor initial promo campaigns (including Seinfeld ten years ago) turn out to be brilliant.

     What will come of "The Michael Richards Show"? Who knows? The quality of
the writing will determine whether Richards' new vehicle succeeds. The trades
report mixed news on this front. The original pilot shot in late 1999 was
reportedly very poorly written, and rejected by the network (after the show
itself had already been bought and an airtime slot committed to it) before it
was to be shown to the ad agencies in the US for advance fall spot sales. It
had to be rewritten from scratch by a different team of writers and reshot. (As
far as I know the show's supporting cast was not changed.) Supposedly the
retooled pilot was much better and funnier, and the network brass and ad agency
people who've seen it in rough cut think it has a lot better chance for success
now than it did originally. We'll see.
     NBC is staking the success of its Tuesday night schedule on "The Michael
Richards Show" to give the night a good lead-off. We will know whether it
works, by mid-October.

Two things I read today about the "retooled" show:

(1) Tim "The Ladies Man" Meadows (recently of SNL) has been added to the cast and

(2) In the original show, MR played a private detective who basically worked alone; in the new version he'll work out of an office with a staff of supporting players.

So does that mean Tim Meadows has finally left SNL?

The the prevailing rumor. I can't imagine him doing both (although Nicole Sullivan appeared in both MAD-TV and that awful Kira Sedgewick sitcom this year).

Just wondering how Tim Meadows broke free from his "30-year-contract" (a joke mentioned in an SNL song when he was still there after Farley and Sandler left). I think it went something like, "Why did I sign / a thiry-year-contract?/ That's such a long time / I see that now." It was funny, but maybe you had to see it to think so...
