I bumped into Al Yegenah (the real soup man) today. For those who love his soup, only 3 more weeks until he opens after his annual summer hiatus.

Didn't he sue seinfeld for doing that episode? Is his soup really that good. I got to try it the next time I am in New York. He is kind of a poor sport for getting all wound up over that episode. Isn't it kinda conceited for him to think it was him that they were portraying in the show?
i agree with lala. why did he make a big fuss out of it? i heard him say on the news when that episode first came out, he said "that jerry, that's jerry and his stupid friends they ruin my buisness for me!" i mean, c'mon. y know how many more people must go in there now cause of jerry and his "stupid" friends? gimme a break al baby.

Actually from what I heard the soup stand was always packed, like in the show, even before they mentioned it on Seinfeld. He was upset that the extra business would be too much.
theres no such thing as to much buisness. that guys's just an asshole that dosn't know how good he has it. why go to NY for soup when i get go to the supermarket and buy a can of lipton chicken noodle?

My understanding is that there is NO DOUBT that the "Soup Nazi" IS Al Yegenah. A TV newsmagazine even did a story about it. Many of the traits shown in "The Soup Nazi" were taken from Al's real-life behavior and "rules" in his soup shop.
However, I agree that it was lame for Al to make a big stink of it. (I don't think he sued, just threatened to.) I would be flattered to be "immortalized" by Seinfeld, no matter how negative the portrayal - just like the real J. Peterman or Steinbrenner.
