George's wallet explained...

I know all about George's wallet. everyone says it was unrealistic how his wallet was so unstuffed before it was mantioned on last week's program. it was never that stuffed before, right? That's right. Why, then? george said he was collecting stuff in there since high school.

The answer? it was a recent thing. george started collecting crap in there just long enough to get it that large. No way was it that way before then. he LIED to Jerry to prove a point. George is a liar, remember? THAT was why his back went out - he wasn't used to carrying all that weight around with him. he only said so in order to get Jerry to understand how important george felt a wallet was.

OR, also equally valid, the wallet in legitimately a high-school-filled one. Maybe George has more than one wallet, yet he keeps the old one for sentimental reasons. Since he was young when he had it, it was overstuffed. He never could bear to part with the stuff, and bringing it with him makes him want to fill it just like he did in the old days. I think this response is less likely than the first, but it is also a possiblity, right?

Yeah, Seinfeld is a TV show, but it is a higher brow one to me - I can't let these inconsistancies go by because it bothers me to think that such a good show would be ruined by something like that. :)

Good enough for me. I think in this instance we should cut the writers some slack. In and of itself, the wallet would not be out of character had we not seen a smaller wallet before. It's hard to come up with new character developments when you have nine years of possible inconsistencies waiting to happen.
