Many times in the world of Seinfeld fiction intersects with reality. Elaine's employer, the J. Peterman Company, really exists. It's in Kentucky, not New York. Their website even has a quote from the fictional Mr. Peterman that states the purpose of the company. They sell the same kind of merchandise that they sold on the show (the stuff Elaine was always racking her brains out to write copy for). Have a look for yourself:

I think I understand this. J. Peterman is real. His company is not. Now, John O'Hurley is real. But O'Hurley's life is Peterman's.
