I've never seen the first episode. According to Entertainment Weekly, there was no Elaine, they ate at Pete's Luncheonette and Jerry lived in a loft?! I've been watching syndicated Seinfeld like, every day for a while, I HAVEN'T SEEN IT. What's up?
By the way, if you come across that issue (May/97), pick it up, it's great.

They show the first (pilot) episode several times a year. Print out the syndication schedule when it's posted here and look for the episode called The Seinfeld Chronicles.
Jerry's apartment appears to be the same, except the colors and furniture may be slighly different. Elaine is not in the pilot episode. Kramer, who may be called by another name, hasn't been out of the building in 10 years.
