Question Unresolved

DVD production will hinder syndication profits as people will have instant access and may no longer watch aired shows.

Fans discuss whether DVD sales will impact the cast's syndication royalties and whether DVDs or bootlegging will affect future profits from reruns.

Does the Seinfeld gang receive royalties from syndication? If so, will DVD production hinder their future profits because people will have instant access and may no longer watch the aired shows.

Withstanding a taper in television viewing, do you think the sales from DVDs will provide equal or greater compensation on their own? Even with the inevitability that countless people will bootleg the DVDs?

I believe the latest number is that Jason, Julia and Michael each make about $100,000 a year from syndication. Both Jerry and Larry David, as Jerry puts it, make Millions, and Millions of Dollars.

I am sure people will still watch syndicated episodes on TV.... after all, we're living in an inherent lazy society, and it is just easier to turn on the TV at 7, than to root through a deep drawer with mis-organized DVD's... Don't get me wrong, I will buy the DVD's, but come 7 on a week-night I'll be sitting in front of the TV watching syndicated versions.

Right. Because it's on tee-vee.

Actually, that's kind of an ironic question. The DVD was delayed because Jason, Julia and Michael felt they got screwed by the syndication royalties (rightly so...especially when you realize that the show basically type-casted them and has made it hard for them to find other quality work). So they held out on giving interviews for the DVD until they won a bigger share of the DVD profits. So go buy the DVDs when they come out...the 3 of them will thank you for it.
