Jerry on "60 Minutes" 9/14

In case you missed it the first time around, Steve Kroft's interview with Jerry will be re-run on 60 Minutes this weekend, just prior to the Emmy Awards broadcast.

Watched it, and didn't care for it. Jerry seemed a bit ill at ease with the whole interview process. His 'spontaneous' responses fell a little flat. The parts with Julia, Jason and Michael were better.

One great line made the whole thing worth it:

"People who read tabloids deserve to be lied to."

Didn't you just love it though, when Jerry said he'd get married "when someone like JFK Jr. gets married." Then Steve Kroft tells him he DID get married, and the look on Jerry's face is like "Oh sh*t." He looked like a deer caught in the headlights!

Also, throughout the whole interview, all I kept thinking was, "Man, he's got GREAT teeth!"

I really enjoyed watching Michael Richards and Jason Alexander be themselves in those couple of clips... you really got a good perspective on just what talented actors they are. Michael is very calm and coherent but makes you believe that he *is* Kramer, while Jason has far less of an accent than George and is a lot more intelligent and articulate. Julia is much less "catty" and definitely less self-involved than Elaine. Then again, you never see them having long discussions about important or terribly serious things on the show, so it's hard to get a taste for that side of them. Although the show is generally about nothing, or moreso about everyday activities like going to the movies or waiting for Chineese food, they can't go into the mundane "real life" areas where people would be sitting there saying nothing, or literally having a boring conversation about the weather. Even their boring conversations are scripted to be funny (obviously why the show is so damn successful).

Steve Kroft also asked him if he was going to marry Shoshana, and he said, "Hopefully..." Wonder how he feels about that now. And, thinking about it, I wonder what's going to happen in his love life (not that it's really any of my business). I can't see him dating a model-type/actress-type like Elizabeth Hurley or JFK Jr's wife because he's far too immature a person to be with one of those types (he's a self-proclaimed immature guy, remember). I could see him with someone like Jeanine Garaffalo (sp), though she's probably too immature for him. I suppose that's why he suited being with Shoshana, though I wonder if she took his humor for granted (though, that's probably part of what attracted her to him... the boobs and the fact that she was mature enough to keep up with his adult side, and immature enough to not pay much attention to his child side. Men seem to be attracted to women who don't pay attention to one of their main traits or activities... you'll see comedians dating women who don't laugh at them, or pro-athletes dating women who don't know a baseball from a hockey puck from a basketball hoop from a hole in the wall.)

Definitely. He really is cute. I like his hair in the mid seasons when it was a bit shorter. It's too bushy for my liking now. Speaking of hair, I like Jason Alexander's head when he has his hair cut really close. He looks less geeky, I guess because the shaved head look is acceptable on everyone these days. It's quite stylish. I mean, hey... when the aliens come, who are they going to relate to? The baldies.

This turned out to be a much longer message than I had intended... wow.

When I saw it, I wasn't that much surprised with Jerrys demeanor. He seems a bit cynical and world-weary about his sucess as if having a hit show for 9 years was somehow dumb luck. I was impressed to learn how "hands-on" he is about the creative direction of the show.

My take on that was he was making a joke to get out of the question that clearly embarrased him. I think he knew full well that JFK Jr. was married.
