Anyone else noticed a certain familiarity to China's repeated demands for a US apology over the recent air accident?
AMERICA: "Well, I talked to my advisers, and, uh, I've thought it over, and, you know, my speech on the White House lawn was abrupt and indifferent, and you deserve much better." CHINA, ready to release the US prisoners: "Well, thank you." AMERICA: "You're welcome." RUSSIA: "Can I get better trade relations?" AMERICA: "Normal or preferred nation?" CHINA: "Uh, excuse me, uh, um, America. I don't want to get into a big thing here, but... I'm not sure if, technically, what you just said was actually an apology." AMERICA: "What?" RUSSIA: "Can you get on those trade relations?" AMERICA: "Would you hang on just a second, son? China, what are you talking about?" CHINA: "Well, it's just, all you said was 'your welcome', which is nice. It's very nice. But... I feel I gotta get the apology." RUSSIA: "Is there anybody else here but you?" AMERICA: "I'm alone, and it's my first term in office. You know, I don't even think we even offer that type of agreement, so... China, really, enough, ok? You know, I-I admitted I regretted the loss of life, so what more do you want from me?" CHINA: "I would like an apology." AMERICA: "All right, look, you know--" FRANCE, [entering the talks]: "Did you get it?" RUSSIA: "No, this guy doesn't know what he's doing." AMERICA: "Oh, yes I do. Yes, I do. OK? I'm interacting with someone here, if you can understand that. Now, I'm sorry." CHINA: "Baah! There it is! You just said it! That's what I want! Now say it again, and tell it to me." AMERICA: "I'm not saying anything to you. I'm not sorry. I was never sorry. It was just an accident, caused by your reckless pilot. I hate diplomacy! Where's that nuke button? Where is it? Can't find anything. I need a war. Ah, missile defense system. Here we go. What are you looking at? Get out! Come on, can't you see the talks are over?! Get out!"
