Is the Pope Catholic?

Hello!

I heard somewhere that The Pope is of Catholic origin. Is this true? I have absolutely nothing against Catholics, or people practicing any other religion for that matter, but I would like to know.

Yes, the Pope by definition is the head of the Catholic church.

It's my understanding that "any" Cardinal has a chance to become Pope...
