I have no idea what's a stand-in, and I guess I'm missing a lot of jokes because of my ignorance... Now I'm ADMITING - I'm kinda dumb... ;) What's a stand-in?

I never knew until I listened closely in the episode. After the actors are done doing their scene, the stand-ins come in and do it so that they can adjust lighting, etc. (The tip-off was when the actors finished, the director said something to the effect of, "Cut. Okay, get the stand-ins in. We need to fix the lights.")

I've seen pictures of the stand-ins for the 4 main Seinfeld characters in that photo essay book of the last show, that would be a weird job.
