OT: American Heroes..

Anyone who's seen the sig file I've been using since 9-11, has correctly assumed I've been personally touched by the reported heroism of many of the men and women aboard United flight 93, which crashed in PA. News reports suggest a violent confrontation between passengers and crewmembers against the hijackers, who apparently were reportedly headed for the United States Capitol. Their collective actions, at the cost of their own lives, prevented one more attack on an American Institution, the disruption of Constitutional government, and the saving of countless lives. As you may be aware, both houses of Congress were in session that day.

In addition to the sig, which is a personal recognition of their sacrifice, I had a football jersey made up while I was recently in VA. It's got a red body, blue shoulders and sleeves, and I had the word "UNITED" placed across the back where a players name would go, and front, rear and sleeves numbered "93"; both in white lettering. I wore it when I went to the Capitol and Ground Zero, and when I flew home. Many people commented favorably about the gesture, either verbally or with a knowing nod or a 'thumbs up' gesture. I was especially pleased when a Delta pilot gave me the "thumbs up" and smiled and said.. "Let's roll," as I boarded his flight in Atlanta.

Last Fri, I was driving from Seattle to Portland at 2am and picked up a Las Vegas AM station on a skip signal. It was [check my spelling..] the Laura Ingram Show and her guest was Evan Thomas, a [or 'the'] Senior Editor of NewsWeek magazine talking about the story NewsWeek just published after reviewing the cockpit voice recorders from the plane. I got to my destination at 2:30am and sat in the car till 3am for the conclusion of the interview.. it was too moving to describe.

I recommend the article [and a related one by one of the reporters] and suggest you might like to share it with others. Two of the men involved in the incident lived in my area and one was a vice-president of a business based in my town.

There has been some talk about awarding several of the passengers the Congressional Medal of Freedom, the highest award the Nation can award civilians. I wholeheartedly support that effort and would request your support if you're so inclined. Please contact your Senators and Representatives to encourage this honor be awarded.

Not at all, H. This will probably be the most appropriate post I read all week. I can imagine the sense of pride you must feel while wearing that jersey. You get a cyber-thumbs up from me. And I'm going to e-mail my senators and state reps. as soon as I click 'Send'.

Yesterday busloads of Canadians headed to NYC for a "Canadians Love New York" weekend. Six Canadian warships (most of our leaky navy I assume) is headed to the east to support armed US/British efforts. A thousand crack Canadian troops are standing by if they are needed on the ground in the far east.

Yet in Today's Toronto Star newspaper an article exposes the continueing preaching of anti-american, anti-semetic Islamic fundamentalism in Mosques right in this city. Disguised as religion, these vermin indoctrinate their young with hate and a call to violence. On college campuses around this country and around the world these extremistms organize, spread their propoganda, and all under the protection of our rights of free speech, democracy and racial equality.

This problem, as Bush says, will not be conquered in a few weeks or a few months, the very root of the problem must be eliminated. This is a war that must be fought at many levels. I never thought I would be saying this but Bush is a president who has finally picked up the gauntlet and is saying "Enough!".

We all may hate super powers but if there has to be a super power in this world lets thank god it is the USA!
