"Newmanium"

In the episode where both Newman and Kramer are planning their millenium new year parties way in advance....Jerry asks Newman if he booked the restaurant for the "real millenium"....since everyone knows the real millenium isn't until the year 2001, etc. Newman says he did. Then, Jerry goes on to tell him is party will be a year late, thus quite lame. I may be hearing it wrong, or interpreting it wrong, but this seems to be a contradiction to me. Of course, 2001 is the new millenium, but the big fun celebration is the turning from 19XX to 20XX. So, while Jerry is right, that the party will be a year late (compared to everyone elses), Newman's party really is scheduled for the correct year. An I reading too much into this, or is it a flub?

Any insight will be helpful.

I checked it out, and I agree with you. (Most of the conversation took place on May 20-22, so I see why I missed it). Anyway, I guess my problem with the joke is that it makes a huge leap....Jerry affirms that Newman set up his party for the actual millenium 12/31/00, but IIRC doesn't specifically say anything about everyone else celebrating on 12/31/99. Just goes right into the 'quite lame' line. I "get" the joke, it just seems to be missing something. Thanks for the clarification.
