Fans debate whether Elaine's character evolution from sweet to bitchy represents realistic growth into a typical New Yorker or just becomes less fun to watch.
A lot of people in this NG have mentioned that Elaine went from being cute, funny and flirty to royal bitch. At first I found it annoying (actually, I still do - her scenes are not fun for me to watch anymore). However, she may be the only character to actually grow and develop normally. Jerry, George and Kramer (native New Yorkers) are all essentially the same. Elaine went from being a sweet girl from Maryland to a typical NYer. What do you think of this theory? :)

Good theory!! Maybe more could be added, but I like the basis. I kind of point this overall change in the fact that Elaine knows that she doesn't like the situation(s) she is in right now. She is still unmarried, she still hangs out with losers, and she still needs to get a life outside the group. Maybe those arn't the main factors, or more could be added, but it's start. She has said on more then one occation that she isn't happy with what's going on in her life. Even last night she said "(she) wasn't a women, but a little kid". You know how she looks when she finally figures out that her life isn't going in the right way, her face looks like a sad puppy. I figure enough of those faces and she is getting really pissed about the situation, and she doesn't know how to deal with it. Someone mentioned earlier about not laughing at Elaine's plot line, and I do agree, I don't laugh either. Maybe the writers are trying to get on a more serious note, but it's not workin'. They have to stick with what works and that's making people laugh.
I think that it is Elain's pure unadulterated meaness that makes her so funny. I hope that if they develope her character it is to make her meaner still.
