Not given a fair trial

First, I must say that I am very disappointed that any of the characters would actually stoop so low as to heckle a carjacking victim. Especially Kramer, who tends to have a decent streak most of the time. This said, I don't think that they had a fair trial in any way. It was probably the most one-sided trial in the history of the American legal system. Did Jackie Chiles even call any witnesses? Jerry's parents surely would have testified in their favor. Keith Hernandez probably would have too, because it was Kramer who helped him move. As for the witnesses who testified against them, many of them were only victims of misunderstandings. Elaine never actually tried to kill Mr Pitt, and Jerry actually did all he could to help Babu when he needed it. In the end, they were locked up only for being totally uncaring human beings. The judge said so himself. They may be heartless, but this isn't a crime. Maybe they will get dismissed early for good behavior, but I was very sad to see them end up in prison with all of those hardened criminals for doing so little. Maybe if they ahd been given separate trials it would have turned out differently. I don't remember many people saying anything bad about Kramer. Anyway, maybe they will be able to get on with their lives once they get out of prison, but Kramer and Jerry probably won't be neighbors anymore, and Elaine and George will probably be unemployed all over again.

I thought that Elaine's line was some kind of meta-humor. That is, it's the kind of thing that you can imagine a standup comedian saying as part of his act, but isn't funny in real life. This fits in with my theory that the whole episode was them thumbing their noses at the people who can't differentiate the immaturity and self-centeredness of the fictional characters from real life.

In fact, it might have been a lot more amusing if Al Franken had done a guest cameo, and it was /his/ car that was being carjacked! Even more hilarious would have been if the carjacker decided to steal Al Franken's glasses, too! (I wonder what little quip Elaine might have offered under those circumstances...)

I thought the bit about them not helping anyone had to do with the fact that they were from New York and not a comment on anyone of them individually. The Seinfeld show is funny because it is relative to society which seems to punish innocent bystanders sometimes just to find someone guilty and then ten years later to find them innocent based on some new evidence.
