Difference between Dentist & Sadist

In 'The Yadda Yadda' (Is this how it's spelled? I'm not sure...) Jerry, after the latest Tim Watley (once again, spelling?) incidents, tells a joke that goes something like:

What's the difference between a Dentist and a Sadist?

-->Newer Magazines Can anyone please explain what he meant by that? I've been wondering for way too long (I wonder why I didn't post this msg earlier... Well, bygones..) and I wanna know what this means.

I think the point of the joke is to show that dentists enjoy hurting people just like sadists do. Doctors' waiting rooms are also notorious for having really old and boring magazines, so the only difference are the weird, presumably newer, porn magazines sadists get off on. It's not a very funny joke anyway...

I thought it was a pretty funny joke, myself. Mainly in the delivery, though.

You could be right, but if that is so, what other possible magazines would sadists have to compare with the dentists' old crappy ones?! Don't forget - Jerry says 'newer magazines', implying, of course, that sadists have magazines, whatever those may be.

It implies that sadists and dentists are basically the same but sadists are slightly better because they have newer magazines. This is funny.

That a Dentist *is* basically a Sadist. The "newer magazines" bit is referring to the fact that they usually have crappy old magazines in the Dentist waiting room.
