Moderator frustrated that newsgroup has become dominated by tape trading posts instead of Seinfeld discussion and trivia, calls for community to stop the repetitive trading requests.
Seriously, how dumb can some of you be? We have said again and again and again and again. We don't give a crap if you sell or trade tapes. Yeah sure, it's illegal, but WHO CARES. There are no "net cops" in here and we DON'T care what you do. Make a profit, we don't give a shit. We won't tell anyone, b/c WE DON'T CARE! We just don't like seeing posting every every every every single day about people WANTING to trade/sell. I remember coming here and reading up on Seinfeld, and trivia, and everyone having a great time. Now all I've been seeing is people ONLY posting about wanting episodes. I can't even remember the last time I've seen trivia. I think enough is enough and let's just DROP THIS WHOLE CRAP.
If these ntcops in here don't care, why would you and the couple others harass people for asking to trade? Why would I and others be called bootleggers? Why would I and others be threatened with Sony's lawyers?
Your WRONG! People in here are control freaks, and they know who they are. You cannot back up any of what you stated above, it is false.
The correct form in this instance is "You're," not "Your." By using "Your" in this sentence, it leads the reader to believe that he owns "WRONG," but rather you meant "You are WRONG" and thus should have used "You're" instead of "Your."
I gotta say (whoever wrote this original post) that posts like that are stirring up more warlike posts which to me are more of a pest than trading. Please do not take offense at my opinion as I am not attacking yours. Its just my observation. Have a great day LadyBug

You should look in your godly dictionary for the word "bootleg." I don't see how you can argue that you aren't a bootlegger.
And another thing. It is very narrow-minded to think that someone is wrong to use anything other than standard American English. You may as well say that the Chinese are wrong for speaking/writing in Chinese.
Also, I don't think anyone was trying to deny the definition of trading and or selling episodes in here. The argument was regarding "control freaks" and they try to tell people that they shouldn't post "episodes for sell or trade" in this particular forum. The control freaks are saying that they are getting sick of all these messages to the point that they are calling us bootleggers and threatening to inform Sony's Attorneys. YET, these are the same people who regularly download MP3's from Napster, or other similar sources. When people download MP3's it is in a sense "trading".
The person that started this particular thread "Re: Why doesn't anyone understand?" commented and said no one cares if they sell or trade episodes. I made the comment and said if they didn't care, why are they confrontational, etc.
And may I ask you if you feel "trading" episodes is bootlegging? Just curious to hear your opinion.

According to many dictionaries that I have available, including my Office XP spell check, I am correct. To use the Chinese as an example makes no sense. Chinese language writing doesn't even look like English symbols, therefore, preventing me to comment on misspelled words.

It isn't so much my opinion that matters as does the definition, either literally or legally, is. Looking quickly on www.m-w.com, "bootleg" is defined: to produce, reproduce, or distribute illicitly or without authorization.
Now, technically, I guess if you make a copy for yourself, you're bootlegging. I think that what people are taking offense to is the degree to which the bootlegging is taken. Which is understandable. You can argue degrees. I don't believe it makes much sense, perhaps because it's already accepted, to ream someone who says it's cool to tape for yourself as long as you don't sell them or whatever. There are very few, I think, who are extremists when it comes to something like bootlegging. Seriously--I think that there are more people who think that it's cool to dupe but not trade/sell than there are who think it's totally cool to dupe/sell and/or who think it's completely wrong to dupe, even for yourself.
It gets very sticky when you try to compare it to something like Napster. I for one think that for the most part Napster is good for the music industry. I mean, looking strictly at sales, they've gone up since Napster started. Of course, there are lots of factors to consider, and you obviously blindly attribute Napster's appearance with increased record sales.
But think of how much Napster would be used if songs were readily available as individual songs. Instead of shelling out $17+ for a CD, you can buy a song for a buck. That would rock. And what if record companies made more songs available, b-sides, live versions, etc.? What if there were more places where you could sample music? I've downloaded tons of stuff from Napster... the stuff I liked, I went out and bought. The stuff I didn't like was deleted or is now a nice coaster.
To relate this to Seinfeld, what would happen to this newsgroup bootlegging if the episodes were officially released on DVD or VHS?
Yes, you're correct in the way it is spelled. But there are multiple correct answers, especially if you're referring to someone who's speaking from another country. If someone from the UK said, "My favourite colour is brown," would you say that they've exercised poor grammar? If you would, you'd be in the wrong.
