Is George Jewish??

Hi. June Cummins Lewis wrote me to tell me that I was wrong and that JA really is Jewish. I probably mixed it up and the character on the show isn't Jewish and he is. Sorry!

I do not believe that the tape Michael Richards pulled off the desk was set there for him. I also don't believe that Jay has a cheap desk (a cheap show, maybe). I think the tape on the desk was just black tape or electrical tape used to dull the reflection of the set lights and not show up on camera. I have the scene taped (no pun intended) and it is clear that there is a shinnyness to the trim of the desk where the tape was. Tricks like this are used frequently on sets.

Whatever the real reason it took Leno by surprise and as usual tried to deal with it by attracting attention to himself and not his guests.

Jackie Mason has a funny bit (on the "Live from Carnegie Hall" tape I think) where he compares Italians and Jews. The funniest part relates to how the Isreali army is so tough, but how Jews as individuals aren't. At the same time, individual Italians are very tough, but as soon as you put a uniform on them...

Of course its funnier when he says it than when I type it.

Also, I posted this before, but never tuned in to see responses: Did anyone see the article on Seinfeld in the 'Atlantic' about two months ago? What struck me about it was the reference to Nicholson Baker and how his knack for recognition humor is almost equalled by Seinfeld (and his writers). Has anyone else read "The Mezzanine"? Its definitely worth looking up.
