Why does it have to be? I believe the historical spelling is actually "Cosimo" (as in de Medici, for instance).

It only has to be in this person's mind. In the real world ("Seinfeld" world), his name is Cosmo Kramer. Just watch the show in closed captioning to see the proof. Closed Captioning comes directly from the script, word for word. Just watch and see.

BTW, Jerry Seinfeld was on an episode of The Cosby Show, y'know. Remeber the one where the 3-person team of plumbers from college went to The Huxtable home to fix the shower, and Bill Cosby kept lurking around bugging them. Seinfeld was the guy who offered to show Bill his big drill!
