WHY COMPARE SEINFELD EPISODES?

Okay, I live in Australia, so I havnen't seen the new episodes yet...(currently we're in the "Soup Nazi" episode, we just saw Kramer get busted for looking like a pimp).

However, all these comparisons of new episodes to old episodes...well I just don't understand....why do people have to keep comparing the two??? I mean they have totally different storylines, if you keep comparing the movie Heat and The Nutty Professor, of course you' ll say one is better than the other, but in reality, both are great movies when standing alone.

With Seinfeld, when you compare a "Classic" with a new episode, well you'll see the the old episode is better, due to the fact it IS A CLASSIC!!!

So please, show a little respect to the the new episodes, 'cause it's Seinfeld...... lord of the sitcoms...

And a little piece of advice to those who say the standard has dropped on the Seinfeld storyline, acting, etc, etc.... DON'T WATCH IT!!! Hmm, maybe they keep watching it, 'cause they're afraid they'll miss a classic episode that you wouldn't want to miss.....just like good cleavage....you want to look away, BUT YOU JUST CAN'T!!!! Intstead of comparing Seinfeld to old Seinfeld episodes, why not compare Seinfeld to the rest of the current sitcoms on? Then weigh up whether, new Seinfeld episodes are not good enough anymore.....

Well, since you haven't seen the new episodes yet, I guess you wouldn't understand how dramatically the quality has dropped off. I have a feeling your opinion might change after seeing the first four "new" episodes. If I hadn't seen them, I'm sure I'd have the same opinion as you, since there would be no way I could imagine they could be so bad. However, unlike you, I HAVE seen them, so I believe I'm entitled to my opinion. Wait until you see them. Then let's hear your opinion...

They're bad? :) I haven't noticed any drop in quality.

Let's wait until the actual poster DOES see the new episodes, instead of forcing our opinions down his throat.

I think the last two episodes (10/10&10/17) are as good as ever

I do beleive that there is nothing wrong about comparing episodes. However I think it is also true that people are being premature in writing the whole season off. Also there has indeed been a number of shows that were only so-so. I say these things in the true spirt of Seinfeldism. Mulva!!!

Because it is entirely natural to do so. Most people compare where they are to where they were to gauge what progress they've made and how they've changed. Comparing old and new Seinfelds is just like that.

When comparing two movies that share absolutely nothing in common, like you've suggested, most people will judge each movie separately and say you can't really compare the two. However, comparing different episodes of Seinfeld is more like comparing Jerry Lewis' Nutty Professor against Eddie Murphy's Nutty Professor. Comparisons can be made because there is now a common thread.

What you've done is basically say "classic" is synonymous with "old", which is not what most people using "classic" mean. They mean "so good as to be remain ingrained in my mind forever". By this definition, the fact that most of the classics are old has nothing to do with them being old, but rather everything to do with the new episodes not being very good.

By the look of this season, the lord in question is King Lear after being kicked out by his 2 older daughters.

That's exactly why we keep watching. That's the mark of a true fan - sufferring through the bad to get to the good. Intstead of comparing Seinfeld to old Seinfeld episodes, why not compare Seinfeld to the rest of the current sitcoms on? Then weigh up whether, new Seinfeld episodes are not good enough anymore.....

Unfortunately, the new Seinfelds lose on that comparison too. I've laughed more with 3rd Rock, Newsradio, Clueless and Frasier this year than I have with Seinfeld. Of course, none of those can hold a candle up to the syndicated Seinfelds (not including big chunks of the 2 previous seasons).
