Review of THE TALK SHOW(i was wrong!)

Well, i was pleasantly suprised by this weeks Seinfeld. I had been doubtful(as many of you critsized me for) about the Merve Griffith(sp?) show set plot. As it turns out, this episode was great! here's my review: kramers talk show plot was great, it got worse as it went on. other than that....EXCELLENT! elaines coworker, jerry's toys, and george and the squirrles(funniest plot this season) made this episode great. if kramer had a decent subplot, this could even be a classic. let's hope they continue to improve!!:-) my grades for this season: butter shave-B- voice-B serenity now-C blood-D+ junk mail-C+ merve grifith show-B+ dan what did you all think ps-i LOVED veronica tonight, anyone see it?

I'm 26 and have no recollection of the Merv Griffin Show, but I appreciate the reference. Ironically, if I had to name the source of my Merv awareness it would be satires of him, such as SCTV's and now Seinfeld's. Plus, doesn't his name still appear in the credits of shows like Wheel of Fortune? I also enjoy his cameo as a serial killer in The Man With Two Brains: "I've always loved killing. But I can't even lurk. 'Hey, who's that lurking over there? Is that Merv Griffin?'"

Question: is that really what the set looked like? Blinking lights? Seems distracting.

The reason they kept going back to the toys was because each time someone else was seduced into it. First Jerry got George to come over, then they got Elaine, and then Elaine brought the sidler. It showed how truly immature and childlike J, G and E really are, and how completely self absorbed they are to drug a person and 'get their way' with her.

I thought it was funny. I think any scene that shows how demented the characters are is funny.

It did go over the top a bit (recuperating in Georges bed) but the premis was right on.

Oh please! You have to be a writer for the show trying to do some spin control! The episide was pretty bad, and the George plotline was comedy-free

Wow, I thought it was the worst so far! (and I haven't liked one them). Kramer turning his appartment into a talk show set has to be the stupidest idea they have yet come up with. And quite frankly, seeing him drink a can of diet coke (or whatever brand it was) for 15 seconds just doesn't provoke that much laughter in me, sorry. If they wanted to poke fun at the various talk shows, they should have had a plot line where Kramer is invited to a real show, not that bad "highschool skit" kind of stuff. Have all the characters just become imbeciles?

George's plot line looked promising at first, but then they had to fall into another grossly exaggerated situation. I mean, George may want to "get some", but a squirrel sleeping in his bed? Come on...

Jerry's toys was somewhat better, but it started being repetitive when George and Elaine got in on it, and after seeing them play with their toys for the third time, I just got a little bored with it. By the way, I didn't mind it personally, but I bet there will be some people who will be offended by that whole "date rape" analogy.

Before last season, I would have said that one of the best things about Seinfeld was the far-fetched situations, the "surrealism"; but I now realize there was a very important balance that is now completely lost, and that made the show incredibly funny. Even with the most incredible situations, there was always a part of it grounded in reality that viewers could relate to. And the really unbelievable situations (like George saving a whale in the Marine Biologist) usually were surrounded by such clever dialog, and led to such a payoff, that it made them easier to accept. There wasn't any point to Kramer's antics tonight.

All that, of course, IM(very)HO
