The Betrayal--Classic Seinfeld

WOO-HOO! I was utterly impressed by this *brilliant* episode! The ingenuity of the execution alone would've made this episode above average, but the hilarious script filled with tons of nuances made for one unforgettable episode! It was told with definite style, and all of the plot threads that began the episode (or ended it?) were beautifully tied up, one hysterical step at a time. Elaine's "spitefulness", George's "Timberland's colored black", Kramer's "Drop-dead wish", and Jerry's " no awkward moments in conversation" were just mere slices of well-developed and thought-out storylines which wove together perfectly. Incredible scenes: Elaine's "combination" shown unlocked (the chipped tooth was great!), Kramer spilling cereal & getting hit with a snowball, the entire wedding scene, and the rest were equally as satisfying! The last 20 seconds were an unexpected joy as we heard Jerry and Kramer's first conversation. "Really?" pretty much summed up the last 11 years (9 of which we saw) between those two neighbors. Overall, the best episode of the season (I know that's not saying a whole lot) and one of my favorites of the series! For its sheer entertainment value and its innovativeness, I would call this a "classic" episode! I hope this is a sign of what's to come.

I liked this one. Going backwards really kept my attention. I liked the entire "wish" line. But I feel some things were not explained as well compared to going "forward." Maybe I'm just confused, but parts of Elaine going to India seemed redundant. She got the invitation and complained, saw the parents who said, "don't go", and then came in mad and said she was going. But what made her decide to go?

Didn't she think that the parents were in on the plot to keep her away from the wedding? And that's why she decided to go?

I think, for January/February sweeps, they should show the episode forwards...I didn't tape it, but I'd love to see it forwards anyway.

If there's anything that I've learned after all these years of watching (and loving) Seinfeld--- *always tape it*---with only a few exceptions, there are always scenes that are "must see agains"...

Haven't you ever gotten an invite to a wedding noing you couldnt go, and knowing they knew you couldn't go.and thought "they just want a gift"....I have been there...Plus the fact that Elien and the girl didn't like each other, cause she's tall and doesn't wear a bra..Elien decided to "spite" her cause she felt the girl didnt really want her there and I guess she thought her folks were in on it! I liked that whole part!

I think the clincher was Peter's parents' attitude. They seemed to not want her to go so bad, she had to. Also, Elaine mentioned something about how shocked Sue Ellen would be when she saw her there.

What I wanna know is, what was the deal with Kramer banging on the um, whatever it was, calling for Lomez? They never went back to that, did they?

Elaine became suspicious when Pinter's parents tried to dissuade her from attending the wedding; she obviously thought that Sue Ellen had instructed them to say this. This, coupled with the timing of the "unvitation", caused Elaine to come to the conclusion that Sue Ellen didn't want her at the ceremony. Naturally, Elaine tried to foil her scheme.

She assumed, especially after talking to his parents, that Sue Ellen just invited her so she'd send a gift, not expecting her to show.

I also loved the email line. :) That, along with the sneeze scene ("Three seconds earlier") and the reverse progression of Kramer's lollipop had me laughing out loud. At first, I wasn't so hot to the idea in practice (in theory, great) but by 10 minutes in, I was hooked.

I thought it was just because everyone else was there, and Elaine didn't feel like making conversation. Come to think of it, remember how Jerry didn't remember Peter? Maybe this had to do with it. If they had sat down, he'd remember.

I think the reason Elaine said that is because she was embarrassed by her wacky friends, and didn't feel comfortable socializing with them and her new date Peter. (Elaine's shown this before) Who would really want to sit down with their date and talk to them anyway? <g>

Ok, I hope you are right. But are you SURE she wasn't hiding the fact that she was dating someone of Indian heritage. She turned her date around very quickly and has never talked about him for two years, until the Peach Schnaps. What other reason would she have to keep this relationship in *the vault* when she has shared all others with Jerry? Clearly she is showiung her Catholic racist guilt and the Jewish writers are denegrating another culture. Sorry, it had to be said.

She has frequently demonstrated her love/hate relationship with her screwy friends. It's well within character to have her avoid them on a date, and a lot more plausible than her showing 'Catholic racist guilt' and not wanting to be seen with a man of Indian descent. If she was ashamed of that, then why was she so up front about it with George at the wedding, when she wasn't drunk? She also was matter of fact about it when she got the invitation "I wonder if he's related to Peter?" said to Jerry. Doesn't sound like she hid the relationship.

I think Elaine was more afraid that her buddies would say or do something that would turn "Peter" off on her. Looking at the panoply of dates the whole gang has had I doubt very much "race" had much to do with Elaine's thnking (unless it was "race" to the bedroom with that hot guy).

I really enjoyed this episode! It was unusual but I kind of like the off the wall episodes. I give it two thumbs up!
