Seinfeld Season Not Going So Well?

In watching this season, I really have to say that this show has gone pretty downhill fast. I've watched the show since the beginning and I think the material finally gave in.

Seinfeld is a stand-up comedian, but a show is almost as good as its writers, and when Carol Leifer (who stupidly left to work on a show that was quickly cancelled "Almost Perfect") and Larry David left, that was a big blow to the show's mechanics.

Whether or not I think the show with Kramer and the small Japanese men is offensive, I think it is just one out of several episodes that reflect a lack of the show's true genius. All the ends no longer tie up neatly as they once did in that clever fashion.

Opinions? No flames please. I have a feeling that if the show doesn't match up to Seinfeld's creative standards, this will be the last season.

It's always sad to see a once-great show painfully continue when it should have been canceled years ago. (Although I don't think Seinfeld's reached that point yet.)

Murphy Brown used to be one of my favorite shows, and I stopped watching it sometime last year. I also used to really like Coach, which I *think* is still on, but I don't even know when.

If at all possible, I think it's important that a show "dies with dignity."

Jen, I agree about shows "dying with dignity"...but I think Cheers went one better. They made a conscious choice to stop the show while it was still at it height. They didn't want to let it get "tired" and have to strain for the one liners. However, Seinfeld hasn't been on as long as cheers was, and I wish it would be on longer. If they are running out of ideas, it's only because they try to be so unique. I saw Jerry Seinfeld interviewed when the show was about a year old. He said "If you've seen it before, you won't see it again on my show." The only time that happened was when in the same week, by coincidence Murphy Brown (I think) and Seinfeld had a white car chase scene that was a take off on the OJ one. Other than that, I've been watching with that in mind, and I can't think of any shows where their ideas had been done before. Can any of you?? Mary Jo; P.S. That routine where Kramer falls into an office job in NYC and Jerry gets upset when Kramer does not call him when he is late for dinner has been done many times.

it has not been done before-it was inconsistent with these charachters, thats why it was funny.

Cheers at it's height? No Cheers had had it's better days! I think Woody's Wedding, Rebecca's almost marriage to Robin Colcourt and Frazier's divorce were horrible. And in my opinion, Murphy Brown's been stinking up the airwaves for years now too. Thanks for letting me say it. Andrea

I agree that Cheers was still good in the end, but the reason they made a conscious choice to stop the show was because Ted Danson quit. The producers and NBC had no plans to end Cheers until then.

I guess the rule might be something like: the more seasons you have (of a good show) the harder it is to hike up the price for syndication rights.
