Well, I'm glad that someone decided to give the series a chance, because this pilot is certainly nothing to write home about...
I'm glad Jerry (or Larry?) realized that a female character was needed and decided to add the character of Elaine...the series would no doubt have continued to be flat without her...
And what's with George's weird outfits (orange shirt?)...he even has some hair on the top! Poor Kramer has a flat deu(sp?), however...

So that was the first one ever, the one that was showed in the summer of 1989? I thought it showed some promise. The basic qualities of the characters were there, but not as fluid and natural as they've become. Kramer had mosted of his characteristic actions and reactions in the first episode.
They went a bit overboard on the "little things about nothing" though. It seemed like every minute the plot was stopped so that George or Jerry could comment on some quirk of society... The standup comedy was funny but it took up way too much time.
It was still funny. I loved the "do you have any meat?" line from Kramer!
Speaking of Jerry's parent's, here's a question for the group.

I think Jerrys recent father was just a better actor, or the other guy couldn't play his father anymore. But Jerrys most recent father is much funnier and more realistic to Jerrys character than the first guy.

I have to agree. The first father just didn't have the same chemistry with Jerry and the show. The recent father is a brilliant character

I still thought it was funny, though. I guess it was funny in the sense that after watching all those season 7 episodes on tape, the three guys seem so silly back in '89. Kramer looks terrible then, and Jason and Jerry have gotten much better at what they do. Their characters have really evolved from the lifeless ones they seem to be in the pilot.
