Lying about his age?

George played Frogger in HIGH SCHOOL???

Jason Alexander was born in 1959, Jerry Seinfeld (the person not the character) was born in 1955. Video games didn't really become popular until the 1980's (although Space Invaders came out in 1978, Frogger came out later). George and Jerry were supposed to have been friends in high school, the implication being they were the same age (usually students in different grades do not have gym class together) Just how many years younger is George than Jason? And how many years younger than Seinfeld (in real life) is Seinfeld (the character)?

It would seem Jerry is shaving at least eight years off his real-life age. If he was 18 in 1981 (oldest age in high school, earliest time Frogger would have been available) his character must have been born in 1963.

In the show, George and Jerry are 35 (In the Andrea Doria, he said that he didn't spend 34 years of torture or something like that for nothing), Elaine is in her early 30s, and Kramer is about 40.

That would mean they were in their mid-twenties when the show started, and Elaine was in her early 20s.

In an early episode (first or second season) Jerry mentions to someone that he is 36 years old. If he was born in '55, he would be 36 in 1991, which would fit the time of that episode. So I think Jerry the character is supposed to be as old as Jerry the actor.

I think part of the age problem is that we are counting each year the show is on as a real year, however the character's may consider two years of actual show as being less than a year for the lives of the character's--sort of living in a time warp. So, while the show may have been on for" x" number of years, it may only be counted as half that amount of time for the character's. Therefore, although we continue to age, they do not and are still in their early to mid 30's. Understand?

Rdmp: Brilliant riposte! Actually, I thought the discussion of age and which video games were invented when is interesting. But there are some nitpicking discussions on this NG that are humorless. For example, the thread about the cake on last week's episode. "...How could a cake that was 37 years old be edible. Why, that's just not realistic!" Realistic. Yeah, that's what we want. It's realistic that a broke 40 year old man (Kramer) looks like he's 50 and dates beautiful 22 year olds.
