The huge old plum tree in my back garden is producing dark red fruit by the bucket load right now. Every day there is another windfall of eating plums. Every day I stuff them in bags and deliver them to neighbours for them to enjoy. As I do this I think to myself, "you know, we really are living in a society"

And dear Rob, excess produce is usually the number one reason people have to lock their doors in summer...if you really want to be shunned, try growing zucchini. I hear people have gotten alarms and guard dogs at the first sight of such a vine in their neighbor's yard. However, give me a Mackinaw peach anytime. Karen, the California Tomato Terrorist

Indeed we are. Why just yesterday I said to myself, inwardly of course, "The grapes that grew onto the cherry tree by extension are ready to eat and here it is December and I have so many", so I decided to give some to the lake as a sacrifice for Mother Earth as the fish love to eat seeds.

but then as I was walking round the supermarket yesterday trying to avoid the christmas queues some dozy cow kept parking her trolley in the middle of the isle as she aimlessly wandered about making up her aimlessly wandering mid as to what to buy. I felt like shouting at her "hey you stupid bitch, WE'RE LIVING IN A SOCIETY"

Karen,

A Mackinaw peach? Windfall plums? Tomatoes?

Fruit's always a gamble. You can't return fruit.

But the zucchini... even the untended trophy... the 6-pounder... now that's a gourd to be reckoned with. We plumbers often use them to splice the single pipe in steam heating systems.

The ancient peoples of the Farqar and Norge favored them over the pumpkin for Halloween carvings. (No peaches were ever found with faces on them). Properly hollowed and dried, the zucchini can even make a serviceable pair of hiking shoes.

$25/hr. (plus parts and supplies)
