This cookie business is really the most ridiculous nit-picking I have ever seen of this group. Remember people, this is a television show, there is no need to adjust your television, only a need to know the difference between fantasy and reality.

Reality: you still have to get your ass up and ready for work after a good night's sleep and maybe a humorous bit of Seinfeld on the t.v. the night before.

Fantasy: T.V. is only entertainment!!! It's not going to pay your bills or decide for you what to wear each day, or when to fuck your wife when you feel horny!!!

So, why the need to know about a cookie changing it's
position?? It's only a prop to give visual reference to
the subject of the plot. The main thing about watching
a show like Seinfeld is to be in tune with the dialogue
so you can interpret and decide for yourself if is it
funny or not. His general theme of his show is to reflect
on how people take the slightest thing in real life too
seriously and then he turns it into something satirical.
But some of you people watching are becoming just what
he makes fun of each week. Sure visually some things need
to appear to make the physical comedy come to light, but
who gives a shit about if Jerry had his brand of computer
changed or what kind of bike he rides, he is not a real
person, he is a character on television, he is not coming
over to your house after the show for drinks or if you need
to know if he pulled out the reciept out of the ATM or was
it the credit card???? who gives a flying fuck???
If you want to be so critcal about these things that are
just a fantasy and you deem it so important to find out
then it's no wonder that our country is so fucked up because
some of us would rather debate over the different postions
of a cookie on a t.v. show, while we neglect the issues
of homelessness, violence in our cities , unemployment,
    the puffy shirt etc...
Well to put all the inquiries to resolution, here's
    what really happened:
Jerry had to appear to be eating the cookie
(remember all the while you are watching a t.v. show, this is
not reality, so there is no need to debate whether he
he eats the cookie with one bite, or he chews with his
mouth open or he talks while he eats etc...)
so there was more than one cookie he had to use
in the scene (these are called props),
After he was shown the first time holding
the cookie, it was shown with the brown side facing
a particular postion and the white side the other.
This take was kept and shown in the final cut. But
in the next scene the cookie had been shown in the opposite
postion. What happened was, when he bit the cookie the
first time , it made him really sick to the stomach,
the whole day of shooting was lost at that point. Jerry
almost threw up on the set as he staggered outside to his
trailer. He had to call the day off and decided to finish
the scene on the next day. (Remember all the while the
remaining cookies , a half dozen or so, are still on the
set, including the one Jerry ate with the bite in it).
Anyways, that night Jerry found no Pepto-Bismol in his
trailer so on the way home he stopped at an ATM so he
could go to the 7-Eleven to buy some.
At the ATM he raced the lady next to him and won by
not taking a receipt. A police car drove by and the officers
started arguing he he took the receipt or if it was just the
ATM card, this got so heated that the officer who was sure it
was the reciept Jerry took was very inscensed, he took his
gun out and shot the other cop to death who argued that
it was just the ATM card.
The next day Jerry felt o.k., but knew that he would have
to finish the cookie scene and the thought of becoming sick
again was still fresh on his mind.
So the scene was rushed, especially after Jerry stated
to the filming crew, " I don't give a shit how these fucking
cookies look while we shoot this, I almost puked my guts
out yesterday. So, where we left off I'll just get a fresh
one and NO MATTER WHAT ANGLE YOU SHOOT OR HOW THE
       COOKIE IS POSITIONED, I DON'T GIVE A RAT'S ASS, LET'S
     JUST GET THIS OVER WITH!!!"
Thus, the resulting compromise in why the big issue over
    such a stupid detail...

I understand that you think people should be more intuned to the plot as you say, but these backgroung props do change quite often.

You may not think of Jerry as a real person to come over for drinks, but I thought the point of the show was to make Jerry, George, Kramer, Elaine, etc. like real people leading those particular lives. So if he does seem to get a new bike each episode or has more cereal than a supermarket, that seems to interest people.

Quite a diatribe for something you consider a bit irrevlevant.

How about, just not reading the thread....

Sure, it's not a big deal, but then what really is? :)

I usually don't flame people unless they are so far over the line that I can't help myself. But I have low tolerance today and I think you are enough of a butthead that it's justified.

Pay attention now, you condescending, flatulent mass. The items on the set ARE NOT just to give visual reference. They are important plot devices, perhaps not on par with "Rosebud" in Citizen Kane, but nonetheless crucial to the audience's understanding of who "Jerry" is. If they were just trivial items that the props department set in place and forgot about, then why do the cereals change every week? Why does "Jerry" get a new Mac every time a new line comes out? Of course Jerry's character on the show isn't real. Duh. LIKE WE DON'T KNOW THAT. It is still interesting to speculate on "Jerry"'s tastes, anxieties, character flaws, etc.. Jerry himself has admitted how anal he is. I think he would appreciate this level of analysis. It is totally consistent with his characterization on the show.

And besides, some poeple just get a kick out of finding continuity errors in their favorite movies and shows. If this is too far *beneath* you, maybe you could find another newsgroup to post to, like alt.pompous.buttheads.are.us.

That's what great about Seinfeld fans, they become nothing!

(by the way, that whole thing was great, but it wouldn't make a good Seinfeld episode, because it had a plot, death, and serious cops in it. Too much Drama for a Seinfeld show... sorry, take another number and go to the end of the line).
