No. You can get the bonus disc free with any purchase: Season 1&2 box, Season 3 box, or gift set. I bought the boxes (not gift set) elsewhere, then bought the bonus disc from Best Buy. The bonus disc purchased separately is $3.99. I'm not paying $22 for salt/pepper shakers and a Big Salad script.

I don't understand why people are buying this DVD set at all. The darned show is on TV every night, for crying out loud, and probably will be for years to come! TBS shows episodes back to back on some nights! What's so special about the first three seasons that people want to own them on DVD? You can just tape them off the air for FREE!

Well, I can't speak for the bonus features (though I have no doubt they're available for download somewhere) but as for editing...my opinion is that editing is one of the best ways to make a show leaner, tighter, and more funny. Trimming away all the useless fluff can only improve the show.

Well, if they would trim 'useless' stuff, I would concur, but unfortunately, they do not trim to make the show funnier or leaner, they trim to make mo' money.... they need to cut scenes that come up to 1 minute, or 1.5 minutes, and they don't care what they cut or where.

you're right. In the episode Dogs, Dogs, Dogs of the Andy Griffith show, one of the funniest ever, TVLand cut Barney's speech about selfish giraffes. The whole episode leads up to that speech. The people who do sitcom cutting clearly don't care.

Cable networks led the charge in ruining over the air broadcasts - with ads DURING the show. Now even PAY NETWORKS like Starz run ads over the credits. Or show a logo-watermark during the movie.

In a way - the networks are forcing us to buy the DVDs to get clean shows.

I saw the 3 season box at Sam's Club for $75. The sets were $31.88 apiece.

I took a pass on the Gift Set, since you're essentially paying another $22 for a script, salt/pepper shakers, etc. Crap. Pure markup/profit. I cut my G&A by 50% this way.
