Can anybody think of a celebrity who has left a top rated show and his/her career has improved? When MASH ended, boy that helped Alan Alda's career.

Belushi and Ackroyd never equalled the work they did on SNL. John Candy's artistic zenith was SCTV.

Chevy Chase too. Great talk show pal.

It kills me when these stars have the opportunity to present their work in a format that's very conducive to their style like Seinfeld, but they get a big ego and think they're gonna do better elsewhere.

Jerry would be very dry in movies. As funny as his character seems, it's actually not a very likable one and I don't think it would translate to some other medium.

Hmm. To my recollection, some guy left "Welcoem Back Kotter" to do a little flick or two-- with music and dancing--that were mildly successful. Oh yeah, now I remember: John Travolta. <g>

Come on, folks. If Jerry wants to go after giving us pleasure for so many seasons, after amassing a huge fortune, after creating a landmark series that will be known as one of the defining cultural symbols of the '90s...then more power to him.

Agreed...and let's not forget that he is showing a degree of respect both for his audience and for the intrinsic quality of his work, that few people in show business do these days. He'd rather quit, and give up an extra $110 million from NBC, than go through the motions of another season when he figures the well of fresh ideas is about to run dry. The guy doesn't want to give us anything less than his best. For that he deserves a lot of respect from his aud- ience, in return for the respect he's showing us.

Arnold Horshack??? God, I LOVED him!!!! He was great in Saturday Night Fever and Grease, but his work in Pulp Fiction was the high water mark of a fantastic career. Oh, and Get Shorty!

I never said that Jerry should or shouldn't quit Seinfeld. As long as the Pittsburgh Penguins and Steeler's keep playing, I'm a happy old dude. I was just making the prediction that Seinfeld will be Jerry's greatest career accomplishment. Why are so many stars reluctant to admit that it's not just talent, but the right place, the right time and the right formula.

Nope. Julia left SNL and then turned up in a short-lived NBC flop called "Day by Day". Nick at Nite's TV Land reruns it on the weekends. After that, came Seinfeld, but I still think it was a couple of years or so...

Ever hear of John Travolta? He seems to have managed to sell a few billion dollars worth of movie tickets after deciding to graduate from "Welcome Back, Kotter"...

Since Jerry is ACTUALLY leaving while on the bottom, his carrer will probably improve. He did a show for HBO earlier this year (of course, it won't actually appear on TV until next year...you know how that is...).

If you are tired of the work and can see the handwriting on the wall then what difference does it make if you are top rated or not. Maybe you are reading your own competitive personality traits into this thing. Like I said before....If you have a hundred million dollars and someone offers you 5 million to do something you would rather not ...........
