It is so clear the deterioration in quality between what the current re-runs and the earlier shows. Come on, I've had quite enough of George having fits about getting screwed by everyone right and left. And Cosmo is getting way too weird (even for Cosmo). And Jerry is just plain silly.

Watching George's screaming, Elaine's vindictiveness and the silly dialogue makes it compare poorly to episodes like The Marine Biologist, The Bubble Boy etc... There were a couple of good episodes in years 8 and 9 but not as many as the consistently great years 3-7. Years 1 and 2 were good but did not have the characters developed yet nor contain the magnificent intertwined plots of future episodes. Them's my 2 cents.

I agree that the show's glory days were years 3 and 4, with 5 just behind. 6 and 7 were good, but not nearly as effortlessly funny. I think I liked season 8 a little more than most people. Not helping was the disintegration of the characters in the final season- George's constant screaming ruined episodes like "The Dealership", and Elaine, once a wonderfully appealing and likeable character, had by the end become an obnoxious bitch. Even Jerry had turned into a bit of a jerk. However, I still think the first two seasons are the show's weakest. Those episodes did have a certain charm to them, but they completely lacked the rhythm and cadence which made the later episodes so memorable.
Yep. The Cartoon was surely the worst ever Seinfeld, then 2 episodes later there was The Wizard, one of the best.
