Vegetarianism

Ok, there is something I have been wondering about lately. On the show, are any of the characters vegetarians?

Jerry, doesn't seem to like meat (from that episode when he was dating that girl that was meat crazed) although I seem to remember him eating some meat from time to time.

Elaine is always eating a big salad, complains about doplhins dying in the nets, and is against fur coats. I can't remember if she has ever eaten meat or not, although I seem to remember her saying she does eat some types of fish.

George, I'm fairly sure will eat whatever he wants.

Kramer, I have absolutely no idea what he eats.

Can anyone tell me what Jerry and Elaine are, do they eat meat or not? They are the two I am the most interested in, although information about any of the other characters is also appreciated. Thanks.

In the Chinese Restautant episode Jerry suggests they go to Skyburger. I'm pretty sure that's not a vegetarian place.

True. And Elaine ends up going there at the end. I don't think any of them are vegetarian.

If you've ever seen the episode where Jerry is going out with Elaine's sister, Holly, there's a lot of debate over the meat issue. Jerry and Elaine are having lunch at Monk's and he orders a Veggie burger and a Grapefruit.

Elaine: "What is this?" Jerry: "Veggie burger and a grapefruit." Elaine: "What are you turning into?" Jerry: "A healthy person."

This is the episode where George gets squirted in the eye by that same grapefruit.

George: "...yeah, you musta squirted a piece of pulp in it too..." Jerry: "Pulp couldn't make it across the table." George: "Pulp can move baby!"

Then later, Jerry and Holly are having dinner and Jerry just desides to order a Salad, saying that he's not much a meat eater.

Holly: "You're not one of...those..." Jerry: "No, I'm not one of...those..."

Which I assumed to mean vegitarians. Later, he hid the mutton that Holly made him and Elaine for dinner in the pockets of his jacket. Then, at the end of the episode, he's hiding porkchops inbetween the coushins of his couch.

So, I don't think Elaine is because she makes fun of him in the beginning, and also eats the mutton. Jerry...I dunno. I've seen him meat on the show before, he always has somekind of sandwich at Monk's, but in this episode he won't touch it. Often on the show they have an episode that goes way out of line in referance to other episodes. Like the debate as to whether or not Kramer takes baths. One episode he says that it's all he takes. Then another has him saying that he can't stand the thought of them. The writers sometimes go away from what's already been set down in older episodes, probably just because they can often make whatever they're talking about pretty funny. Sorry that whole thing is so long. Hope it answered whoever's question! :)

Why does it puzzle you - Kramer reacts to the moment - it des not really matter if his character REALLY takes baths - the humour is in his reations. I guess he may lie too.

I think she is capable of sticking to a cause she believes in, she won't eat tuna because of the dolphins, she dumps a guy she really likes because he is against abortion. Yeah, Jerry's admitting that he is superficial is one of the reasons I like him. Elaine seems like the classic limousine liberal to me, which keeps me from liking her as much as I like Jerry and George. And I think everyone else already realizes that she is superficial even if she doesn't. In a lot of ways I like Elaine but in a lot of ways she bugs the hell out of me. By the way, is there any word yet on if my one true love, Janeane Garafalo is staying on the show next season. I haven't heard anything about if she is or not lately.

There's no way Elaine's an animal lover. On one episode, she wants Jerry to kill her boyfriend's two cats because she's allergic. Then, she hires Newman to "whack" the barking dog.

In an early episode she said she was a vegetarian but then admitted to eating fish to a woman she was arguing with over her fur coat. I'm sure she's eaten meat in later episodes though so if she ever was she ain't anymore. (I love how in the same episode where she opines to Jerry about the plight of dolphins she plots to kill her boyfriends cats) Oh yeah, she eats chicken in the Bubble Boy episode!

"I'll have the tuna." He probably won't eat pesto anymore though.

My conclusion would be that Elaine used to be a pseudo-vegetarian (she ate fish) but isn't anymore. Jerry probably just eats healthy but wouldn't label himself a vegetarian (i.e. he'll eat meat on occassion).

Okay, I know this analysis is bordering on obsessive so I'll stop.
