Well, I loiter around magazine racks and read the USENET a lot. And I surf more than a few newspapers and magazines off the Web. As for the Oscars, I watched those at the apartment of Tjames Madison, noted THE NET columnist and proprietor of alt.usenet.tjames.
And the reason that I sold my TV was because it was an extra $100 for the move from Los Angeles to San Francisco, and I was hardly watching the damn thing except for the Animaniacs and NEWS RADIO. Since I'd no cable in LA, I had to go to Penny's house to watch all that stuff and to see the Internet in color (I got a B&W Powerbook).
TV is, in fact, so stupid that one can easily bluff familiarity, with little or no chance of getting caught if done right. Seinfeld, to use an example, is the same today as he was five years ago -- and it's so easy therefore to still dismiss him.
Wait...I lie. Five years ago, he wasn't shtupping high school girls.
