I heard on the news today that there will be changes to Seinfeld next season. First, Larry David is leaving. This means that Seinfeld himself will be doing more writing, which also means that they are not going to do stand-up sequences at the beginning and ending of each episode. There will be a different opening.
I think this doesn't bode well for the show. Without Larry David, I think the show won't be as funny.

In the TV Guide interview, he says next year may not be the last!! He says he'll see how things are going at the end of the next season.
According to Jerry Seinfeld himself, David was
not very active in the show THIS season...which critics
and most viewers agree was a considerable improve-
ment on 1994-95. Seinfeld and a team of other writ-
ers were coming up with most of the ongoing story
lines and episode scripts, so we probably won't see
too much change in quality in 1996-97 (or for that
matter, 1997-98, which will probably be the fare-
well season).
As far as the opening goes, it always helps a show
to change a few peripheral elements to keep it fresh.
On radio, we change around bumper music going into
commercial breaks, switch format lines, adjust minor
elements here and there, and throw in new jingle pack-
ages from time to time, just to keep things from going
stale. Seinfeld hasn't changed the basic opening of the
show since they shot the pilot back in 1989. Even if
you don't like whatever opening they come up with, as
much as you liked Jerry's opening monologue, change
itself can be refreshing and keep a show from going
stale. (Remember how Cheers used to open up with a
different setup using a different regular cast member
each week?)I can see some of your hesitation with Larry David leaving the show. He was at least half of the inspiration for the show, and he gave major direction regarding the "tempo" for the show. However, you have to know that the cast of the show are so familiar with their own characters and stories associated with them, that they should be able to carry the show for at least ONE more year.
