Finale ... and Season Opener (Spoiler)

Oh no.....don't tell me the writers went back on their original decision and now George is actually going to MISS Susan! Takes the humor right out of it.....

I hope they did'nt cave in. I was one of those who was at first shocked by the ending of the finale, but I now admire the guts it took to go against the norm for sitcom senseability.

They took a hell of a lot of heat for the reaction to Susan's death. TV Guide had some clinical expert on death write an article on why this Seinfeld episode was so appalling. Tom Shales, the powerful Washington Post critic who is a Sienfeld junky, slammed them in his column. Given Larry David's defiant reaction to the abuse he got for writing "The Invitations", you would think his pals on the show would backup his dark final legacy.

We will have to wait and see on Sept 19. But it sure sounds like they gave in to the pressure.

    This is what I hate about people who slam the episode - they forget
that it isn't real and start acting like Susan was a real person.
Nobody liked her (the fans, that is), hardly anyone wanted Georgie-Boy
to get married, and now they're mad because she's gone. What a weird,
wacky world. :)
    I'm glad "Seinfeld" did that - most of America is so uptight
nowadays that they need something like that to kick them in the ass.
Plus, it was hysterical. :]

I really was just hoping they'd let it get to the point of a wedding episode. Could you imagine how hilarious this would have been? George would obviously not have gone through with it, but it could have been right at the end and completely, humiliatingingly crazy.

Ah well.

Whole Season Premire sounds dumb except for the Kramer karate part. Sounds just like last season. Plots and sub-plots, they have forgotten what the show was originally supposed to be about: NOTHING. Remember episodes like "The Pie", "The Parking Garage", "The Parking Space", "The limo", "The Hamptons", "The Label Maker", and "The Outing". All of these episodes were really about nothing. And there really weren't a bunch of plots for each character. Last season there was tons of plotting. Each character had his or her own little story throughout the show. I found this to be repetitive over the course of the season. I will bet that this same repetitivness with continue. I also think the show lost some of its novelty last season by dealing with storylines that weren't that outrageous or different. George was always dealing with Susan and the Yankees, Elaine was always upset, mean, and annoying, Kramer was still great, Jerry was awful I thought. The characters were really never all involved as friends in the same situation. In the past they have always gotten themselves all in a pickle together, last season they all seemed to lead their own little plots.

    I never understood this "Show about nothing" stuff, because there
always seemed to be something going on with each character. And last
season wasn't so bad - the finale was certainly outrageous enough.
    As for Elaine, the only thing that seemed different about her was
her hair (it looks a lot better). Just picture her with the same old
wall of hair, and, IMHO, she's acting pretty much the same.
    Jerry was kind of a dork last season, though.
    Let's wait until it's shown before we pan it. I, for one, have
faith in it.

George deals with Susan's death and funeral. Jerry gets women to like him because he likes commitment (what? Jerry and commitment don't mix!). Elaine takes over Peterman's job. Kramer gets into Karate.

Aren't the funniest parts not about plot but just when the people are talking? Every plot sounds dumb or "average" (except for a few), but Seinfeld is revered for its use of language. Until you see a script for the episode, I wouldn't pan it.
