Last week, in my marketing research class, the prof was giving us an experiment comparing two sit-com's. He said, "Let's compare say, Cheers and Night Court." Then he realized that those shows are not on any more, so he asked for the class to suggest two shows. Someone suggested Seinfeld and some other show. Prof says, what is Seinfeld? What is Seinfeld!!! The student said that it was a show about nothing. Most of the class burst into laughter. So, I figured, that the prof just wasn't into current sit-com's. He admitted to only watching old Cary Grant and Humphery Bogart movies.
Then, a few days later, I was telling this girl that I had been watching Seinfeld the night before. She said, "What is Seinfeld?" I almost fell over in amazement. I figured that everyone in the so called X-generation would know what Seinfeld is, even if they didn't watch it. Wrong!
THEN, yesterday, our english class was writing claim letters in the computer lab. I wrote one addressed to George Costanza at Vandaleay Industries. It was full of stuff from Seinfeld. The prof was pulling up selected letters for the whole class to critique. She suggests Vandalay Industries. I thought that this would be funny. NOPE! Not a single giggle, chuckle, or even snicker was heard as the class read my letter. Could it be -a class full of people who are not familiar with Seifeld?! I guess so. What the Hell is going on here!?!?
Does this all seem reasonable?
