What Is Julia Louis-Dryfus Up To?

I know she contributed a voice to "A Bug's Life" but I want to know of any upcomming projects of her. If you have any knowledge on this subject please post it here. Thank you!

Oh no. I hope that isn't true - I guess she would me Mary Ann? While I still have very fond memories of Gilligan's Island (I was a child, not too critical), it would almost certainly be unwatchable as a re-made movie.

Unless they did it with a fair amount of character deviation (like the Brady Bunch movies). I couldn't see Julia playing it straight anyway.

OK... now I'm thinking... this is off-topic, but who would be a good cast in a new Gilligan's Island movie?

Skipper: Damn, I wish Farley didn't pass so soon... I suppose Tom Arnold or maybe even John Goodman.

Gilligan: Well, Denver's still alive (I think), but a little too old now. Chris Spade (sans blonde hair) might work. Carey would seem too much like himself. Eddie Murphy would really give it an interesting angle. Spade is the only one that really seems to fit.

Thurston: nobody pops into my mind. Probably a B-actor (there's got to be tons who could nail that part).

Lovey: same.

Ginger: Uh oh... Can't think of redheads off hand... Thinking voluptuos old-school model/star type... Fuentes (has she ever acted?), the redhead from Wings or Mira Sorvino. Yes... Mira, that's it!

Professor: Should just leave him out, but... Michael Richards could make that role pretty interesting. Or, Tom Hanks could do it, and probably win an Oscar in the act.

Mary Ann: had it not been mentioned, JLD would have first popped into my mind. Other than her, Doherty would be funny as a "Mary Ann with an evil/bitchy streak." I would love to see Garofalo as Mary Ann - acting as bright and cynical as she really is, surrounded by morons...

OK, just sang the song in my head to make sure I got everyone. Man, I spent 10 minutes on this, and I bet no one replies... oh well...

Do you mean David Spade? He could be good as Gilligan if Chris Farley were Skipper (it would be a nice change of pace to have Spade as the screwup and Farley as the straight man), but unfortunately, that's impossible.

Jerry Seinfeld would be an interesting possibility. Could be lots of in-jokes about him being so rich from Seinfeld money.

Excellent choice! The only drawback might be that she's not a redhead, but that's a problem that could be worked around.

Oh, you can't leave the Professor out. Without him that bunch of idiots wouldn't last a week. I like Michael Richards playing it like his Van Nostrand character from Seinfeld.

Both of those could be good. Janeane Garofalo could be vicious in the part, which would be great if you're going for parody.

We already covered Mary Ann. JLD is signed, and she's perfect.

The Skipper, aka Jonas Grumby, will be played by Brian Dennehy---perfect look, and it'll be a fun change of pace for him after doing Willy Loman in "Death of a Salesman" on Broadway. He's got a light comedic touch as well (I've seen him do guest shots on TV in shows like "Just Shoot Me") so he should be fine. He's also under contract for the part.

Those two parts are already set in stone according to the Internet Movie Database. Now to the parts for which casting hasn't yet been announced.

This being a Seinfeld group, I'd say that Michael Richards, even though he's way taller than Bob Denver, can summon up the proper goofiness to play the role of Gilligan. Can't think of anyone else over-the-top enough to make it work, and have the needed screen presence as well.

Who would be Thurston Howell III? Why not John O'Hurley, who did the role of J. Peterman on "Seinfeld"? His wife could be played by Susan Sullivan, the mother-in-law on "Dharma and Greg."

I like the idea of Mira Sorvino as Ginger. She has a lot of range but she seems to love to do the bimbo...even got an Oscar for playing one before.

The Professor is the toughest role, because you'll have to change him a lot to make him work on film. The writers for the TV show made him a relatively blank slate and used him as little more than a plot device but in the film he's got potential. You can play him as a buffoonish pedant, in which case Jason Alexander could do a real turn playing him like George Costanza with a Ph.D. (Isn't THAT a terrifying thought?). Or you could play him as an erudite, urbane, unflappable but still quirky and funny guy, with a sharp wit, in which case your best choice would be...Jerry Seinfeld.

Wouldn't you go to see that picture, especially if the screenplay was by Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld?
