Fans discuss what Elaine said at the end of the episode when she left the interview, determining she said she had to go buy socks as a reference to her job as Mr. Pitt's assistant.
At the end of the show Elaine is in the audience watching an interview of her old boyfriend; boyfriend and interviewer get into a fight over the glasses, Elaine stands up in the audience, turns around to face the camera and says. . . . . what was the word she said????

I was wondering this myself... it sounded like she said something about "socks", but that doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.
Although I thought she was saying this to the people she was stepping over to leave her seat, not to the camera.
This is a reference to her fascinating job with Mr. Pitt. Earlier in the episode Lippman tells her he may be starting his own Publishing company, and that he may have a job for Elaine. Elaine says that she is *so* sick of looking for socks (for Mr. Pitt).
At the end of the episode, Elaine's chances of a new career go down the tubes, so she leaves. As she's leaving she says "I have to go look for some socks".

She said that she had to leave and buy some socks. This was in reference to her job as Mr. Pitt's assistant. During this season, she is his assistant and thus has to go around doing his stupid errands, like continually buying different socks, none of which he approves of.
She felt she lost the chance at working for the publisher (whom she gave the glasses), so she resigned herself to going back to working for Mr. Pitt.

She said "Excuse me.. I have to go buy some socks." If you remember earlier in the show, Elaine was discussing a possible job with the publisher who got into a fight with Jake, Elaine's ex-boyfriend, at the end. While discussing the job, Elaine said, "It'll be a lot better than buying socks", which is what she did for Mr. Pitt in a previous episode. When the fight broke out, caused by Jake seeing "his" glasses on the publisher, Elaine figured her chances for the job were zero. That's why she said what she did.
