Best actor on Seinfeld?

Who does everyone think is the best actor on Seinfeld? Jerry, Michael Richards, JLD, Jason Thomas, or someone else?

I'd agree. BUt it's so hard to say because they all do these roles very well. I have only seen Jason Alexander in other roles outside of Seinfeld and he was so different than "George" that I must say he is a fine actor.

I have never seen Michael Richards do anything else.. to those who HAVE seen him in other movies/tv shows, does he act like "Kramer" or does he act totally different?

I'd probably say Kramer, George, Jerry, Elaine. Kramer is my favorite one on there, because he acts the part so well. Of course, Jason does a good job of playing a loser too ;^) Michael Richards was in the Wierd Al movie called "UHF". He played a janitor named Stanley Spidowski (not sure of the spelling) who everyone pushed around, and thought was worthless, but ended up making the TV station that Wierd Al owned the most popular channel. I remember Stanley kept saying how important his mop was to him. He acted that part pretty good too, and it was pretty wacky. I wouldn't say it was as wacky as Kramer, but it I seem to remember him doing some physical humor too, similar to Kramer. (tripping, etc)

Michael Richards is the best physical comedian I've ever seen, and everything I've seen with him in it has lots of funny physical comedy in it. Not to get too intellectual about this, but I don't think any of them act very well at all in the show - which, is the point of the whole show. Jerry is the worst, tho - he's always smirking and laughing right after something funny happens. At least the others can hold a straight face while they're delivering their lines...

What I think you fail to realize is that "acting" means creating a character and becoming that character. I can't think of any better example of creating solid identifiable characters than the ones on "Seinfeld". Sure, Jerry is just playing himself so I'll give you that. But the others have all created their tv personas from nothing and they are immediately recognizable even if you only heard their voices. The inflections, the facial expressions, the body language and gestures. Wouldn't you agree that all these characters are original and not generic sitcom characters like on most other shows? Hey, I know it's a sitcom and not Shakespeare, but I was discussing this show and the actors in it with some fellow actors (I'm an actor myself) and we used this show as an example of creating a character and making it believable and drawing the audience into the "world" that the show takes place in. That's what it's all about and isn't that why we all watch? And as for best actor it's a real close tie for me between JLD and Michael Richards. But probably MR because you don't even think of him as MR, you think of him as KRAMER! That's a successful role portrayal.

Why do we always have to have a best of everything? Would the show be the same without Jerry? Would the show be the same w/o Kramer? Would the show be the same w/o Elaine? Would the show be the same w/o Newman? All of these people are essential to the show. Without any of them the show would not be as successful as it has been. Then, why place any of the characters lower than the other? The chemistry is perfect. There would not be a Seinfeld show with Jerry Seinfeld, hence, he would be the most important one. But even so, he could not have done it without Kramer, Elaine and George. So, please let us stop trying to find out who is the best. Let us just enjoy what we have, now. Because some day, we won't have, but memories. If you want to say who is your favorite, then say who is your favorite. But let's stop the 'who's the best' theories, and just "relax and enjoy the show".

I agree that Jerry isn't acting, because he's just being himself. That's the ingeniousness of it. ;-)

I don't mind the best lines, worst or best episodes, great entrances, bad entrances, but the point I was trying to make is that w/o any of these characters, the show could not have been made. That's all. I understand all the other stuff. Arguing who's the best, or who's the more important does not give the show any credit. You are giving the person the credit, which is not the case. The show consists of 4-5 characters that together spend time. Not one character that is the show.
