The sub-plot of Jerry waking up and writing down the joke is also from "The Heart Attack. At the beginning of the show Jerry is lying on his sofa half-asleep watching a movie on TV. When he wakes up he is remembering the line that the guy was saying in the movie, thinks it's funny and writes it down but for most of the show can't figure out or remember what the line was. At the end when he is at the hospital with George, Jerry notices that the same movie is on the TV and turns up the volume at time the guy is saying the same line from earlier. This is when Jerry realizes what the note says. I think it was something like, "Flaming globes of sigmund." Which of course was not funny at all.
What was funny was how Jerry kept showing the note to people to see if they could read it and some of the things they thought it said. Elaine- "Don't mess with Johnny" (a refernce to Jerry having made an appearance on Johnny Carson.) Nurse at hospital- "Salami, salami, baloney." Thor Eckman(the guy Kramer talked George into going to to heal his tonsils)- "Cleveland 117-San Antonio 109" (sorry if that score isn't exactly what he said)
This is one of my all-time favorite Seinfeld episodes.
