Tropea's comments: Seinfeld finale - so-so

These are my comments for the very last Seinfeld show. S p o i l e r

Well thats that. It was a remarkably unfunny episode.

1) George asking top tv producers about what kind of fruit they have. God i would have died from embaressment if i was Jerry and i would have considered killing the idea if i was the tv exec.

2) Kramer wasn't it a bit stupid that he couldn't get the water out of his ear. It would have dried up withen hours. Stretched reality to the point of stupidity.

3) The stream of witnesses was imaginative and a good way to bring in all of the past characters. I thought the soup nazi was a riot when he grabbed the soup away from the former restaurant owner.

4) They were obviously guilty did they ever think of pleading to a lesser charge. Sheesh. Plus since the show took place in Mass they should have hired Richard and Ally from the show Ally McBeal. That would have been a great crossover.

5) Well a year in prison together. That is justice i wonder if there will be a special episode when they get out?

In all seriousness after 9 years i think its time for the show to leave. For a finale show Cheers and MASH did a much better job.

Personally, I've never looked to Seinfeld to provide a realistic view of our legal system (or anything else (show of hands: how many of you believe George could have a new woman interested in him every week?)), but if you're going to nitpick legal procedure, at least show some imgination:

1) Even the strictest good samaritan law would not require a bystander to put himself at risk. You're not expected to jump into frozen lake or into the middle of a robbery. In fact, ask a policeman how to react to a robbery, and his first words of advise would probably be "Don't be a hero. Your wallet is not worth dying for." In short, case dismissed.

2) It's usually a no-no to for the prosecution to bring in character witnesses to swear that the defendant is a mean son of a bitch who deserves to go to jail. The jury is supposed to convict a person because of what they've done, not who they are.

In short, overturned on appeal.

3) At the end, the boys are in the Latham County Jail (it's on their uniforms). This is realistic; however, they would not be jailed with murderers and car thieves (as they hecklers claim). Serious offenders (sentenced to more than a year or two) would be at a state prison.

Don't get me started on the legal procedure in Ally McBeal.

ObSeinfeld: A clever ending to a clever show. On the show about nothing, they go to jail for doing nothing.

I thought that the first half of the show was good, but the trial almost put me to sleep. That half of the show was just a "clip show". Plus, I've never liked the Jackie Chiles (sp?) character.

personally, i liked the show least when the characters were this despicable. i hate what they did to elaine's character the last couple of years, turning her into a truly nasty person, which she wasn't at all originally. even when she did things like steal the toilet paper from the stall in the public bathroom, she did it because she was provoked.

However, a rather boring and nasty episode, IMHO. In contrast, I watched the Ellen finale (I have seen a total of three or four episodes of the show) and found it quite amusing.

i think you realize this already, but for the record, my point was that they didn't even try. not even a thought of good will. it's not even nitpicking to point out that some places don't have 911 when they didn't even think to try.

The actors seemed to be performing a show they realized was not funny. Elaine didn't have that edge, George wasn't patently manic--he seemed forced, Kramer didn't have that snap, and Jerry didn't seem on the verge of laughing, like he usually does. They appeared to be under duress. The funny part is, I kind of felt under duress to laugh at a show that wasn't really funny.

No, the only reason our guys were singled out is -- well, plot device, obviously -- but also because they made jokes. The First Amendment says that you can mock or ridicule anyone or anything you want.

I never thought that Kramer would act that way, either. Out of all of the characters, he seemed to have the best (though sometimes misguided) heart of the whole troupe.

I was disappointed in the episode. thought that the writers tried to squeeze too much in. I am happy with my reruns.

If 'great' means 'utterly, utterly shite' these days. Ally McBeal, now there's an idiotic programme. At any rate, it would've went completely against the show.

I've been rude enough today, I shan't trash Cheers. But I shall trash MASH. It was crap. It was maudlin. And I've seen quite a lot of critics claiming it as such recently, so I wouldn't even say it's held up well. And the actors themselves admit it was a bit crap and just an excuse for them to be weepy.

MASH was (and is) a terrific show. The last episode was excellent and did a nice job of wrapping things up. Sienfeld, on the other hand, not very funny and dull. What a disappointment: after the all the time they had to plan for it, and all the hype, many, many past episodes were vastly superior.

I knew someone would say this. No lie, I've had water stuck in my ear like that literally for weeks. Eventually I managed to flush it out with more water.

Cheers is the show that's really guilty of hanging around a couple of extra years too long. And I thought its finale was entirely mediocre at the time.

You're right about Cheers hanging aroudn too long, but the finale was pretty damn good, much better than Seinfeld's. A little sappy, but so was the show - it was a nice end. Plus, seeing them all drunk after the show was well worth it.
