Why no DVD?

I see all these posts regarding Seinfeld on DVD. My question is why DON'T they release them on DVD?

The best excuse I've heard is because they can still pull in high syndication fees. That's all fine and good, but why not make even MORE money by ALSO releasing them on DVD?

The Simpsons and Friends (to name but two) are still in syndication and doing quite well.

I'm sure that the Seinfeld DVDs would be HUGE sellers. I'm sure there are certain markets in this country that don't offer Seinfeld in syndication at all.

There is no good reason why they don't release Seinfeld on DVD. Of course, if I'm wrong, and you can provide a good reason, I eagerly await your reply.

Interesting article on the profits of TV shows on DVD. However, there's a piece of this puzzle that none of us have: how much did they get for the syndication rights to Seinfeld? In particular, how much did Ted Turner pay, and was there a "no DVD for X years" clause in the contract?

Maybe it has nothing to do with the lack of Seinfeld on DVD, but it's info none of us are privy to, and could explain it.

They are probably making more money through syndication. Once that subsides, they'll probably put out a new product, DVDs.

The market for DVD too small?!? I'm willing to bet Seinfeld on DVD would be among the highest grossing DVDs *EVER*.

TV Guide recently voted Seinfeld the #1 tv show of all time. It is a crime that the #1 tv show isn't available on DVD for future generations.

I know my market shows FRIENDS and The Simpsons twice nightly, the same as Seinfeld. Those shows are making their way to DVD, so again I ask the powers that be, why not Seinfeld? You can make a boatload of money off the sales of the DVDs, IN ADDITION TO syndication rights.

Last I looked, there were almost 9000 signatures on the online petition. That doesn't include the people that aren't online, or those that are online but don't know about the petition.

If anyone has an email address for CastleRock, Sony, or Columbia-TriStar, please post it.

I firmly believe that we can make a difference in their thinking, or else get a GOOD and DECENT reason why they aren't releasing them. So far every answer I've heard seems to sidestep the question.

You'll probably need to write to them for any information, rather than simply sending an email. Be sure to let us know what you find out. :-)
