How did George get that job??

due to BskyB inadequate scheduling, in the last series shown here (England) George was unemployed. Now he appears to have some top dog job at some sort of baseball team... how did this come about? Are the characters based on real people?? Is Seinfeld a sitcom character or a real comedian?

Jerry is a real comedian, did stand-up comedy for something like 13 years before he got the series. All of the main characters are based on real people that Jerry or co-creater Larry David know or have known.

In an episode called 'The Opposite', George does everything the opposite of what his instincts tell him is right. Once he starts doing this, good things happen to him. For one, he gets the job with the New York Yankees (some sort of baseball team). He even tells the truth during the interview (something the old George would not have done, hence, the opposite), said he lost his last job for having sex with the cleaning woman, mentioned he was fired from a job for complaining that he was not allowed to use the executive bathroom, even criticized the owner of the team for some questionable trades, and he still got the job. This was a great episode because at the same time, Elaine's life was falling apart, she lost her job and her boyfriend, she was becoming more like the old George. Jerry's part in this plot was that he always ended up even. Played poker and broke even, lost $20 and then found $20, he had one friend who's life sucked (Elaine) and one who's life was great (George). They managed to wrap the whole thing up in a half-hour.

-Yes, the characters are based on real people. Jerry is obviously based on Jerry himself, George is based on the show's co-creator and former producer Larry David, Kramer is based on Kenny Kramer (Larry's former neighbor, who now gives tours of NYC), and I forget who Elaine is based on.

About George's job with the Yankees... Steinbrenner really is the owner of the Yankees, so George's boss for that job is not fictional.

George's complaints to Steinbrenner had a basis in reality as well, as Steinbrenner has made some questionable and unpopular decisions concerning the team in the past.

George had an incredible turn around in his life when he began doing the opposite of whatever he would normally do. So when met the owner of the New York Yankees baseball team, he told the owner what he honestly thought of him(ie. that he was doing terrible job of managing the team). The owner admired him for hisfrankness and spunk and immediately hired him. The owner of the baseball team is based upon the real owner George Steinbrenner. Steinbrenner is a controversial owner who is known for frequently firing the managers of his team. Seinfeld is a real person who is a well known stand-up comedian. Geoge is based upon Seifeld's real life co-creator Larry David. Kramer is based upon one of Seinfeld's real life friends.

I'm pretty sure that I heard in an interview with Jerry Seinfeld that the character Elaine, was based on Jerry's real-life friend and comedianne Carol Leifer.

George is loosely based on Larry David.

well, the Yankees are a great team, but i think sports fans think the organization is run by idiots, so it was a joke to have an idiot revered as an asset by them.

i know george is based on Larry David, co-creator, but i don't know about the others. I should know.

Jerry Seinfeld was in an early league of comedians incl. the likes of Roseanne, Tim Allen and Bill Maher (Politically Incorrect show here in the states.) He got his own show after years of stand-up comedy.

George told Steinbrenner that to his face in "The Opposite." And Steinbrenner said, "Hire this man!"
