most overrated episodes?

Off the top of my head I would bestow that honor on the rye, the pen and the contest episodes. "they rye" was a mediocre episode at best, i didn't find much funny about jerry and george's antics at the end of the episode. and I thought the horse farts were cheap. (unless i was missing some post-modern reference or something.) "the pen" i could do without. a really unfunny episode that Entertainment weekly gave an A+ to. again, maybe i'm missing something. "The contest" is a great episode but i'm sick of it. a lot of the jokes come from how the characters manage to tiptoe around the subject of masturbation. doesn't totally hold up. however when george is in the hospital with his mom and witnesses that sponge bath -- funny funny stuff. any other contenders for most overrated?

The Soup Nazi is the most overrated because is so highly praised. It was a pretty good ep but I think the Schmoopie plotline and the armoire were better plotlines but the Soup Nazi thing was ok.

The contest is great but maybe people are getting sick of it.

The Rye which is on in a half hour from now as I type this from my home in Detroit is a good ep. I thought the horse gas thing was good and not cheap. I like the bread throwing up and fishing pole bit between Jerry and George and that is my favorite part.

The Pen was a good ep although not as good as the eps mentioned above. Stella! was a good bit. Jack Klompus making jokes at the banquet about Mr Seinfeld and Mr Seinfeld not being able to take the jokes and the fight they have were good.

Yada Yada was overrated because Seinfeld did not invent that and it was too big a part of that ep.

It was a great creative risk that they pulled off successfully as they pushed the comic envelope and delved into new TV territory. This topic was unheard of on network TV. But Jerry did it. It depends on the viewer's age and cultural experience as to what part of a show he/she likes. Seinfeld was a great series because the episode's dialogue and situations were so rich there was something for everyone. I loved The Rye for the dialogue between Frank and Estelle and later their conversation at the Ross's dinner party. "Merlot - did they just invent that?" and then the shot of Mrs. Ross's taking another gulp." and Frank's "...Who has sex with the chicken?" FANTASTIC!!!

I take it you don't have Jewish parents in Florida. Those of us that do loved every minute of that episode. It said we are not alone! There are others experiencing this insanity. LOL

Well, I would like to go on but, yada yada,...

The nice thing about Seinfeld is we all have favourites out of the 180 gems produced. A few really shine to some and a different few shine to others.

Sorry to confuse. I thought my post followed Adam's (posted below) which indicates he has been to the soup nazi's shop. Based on the praise for the soup in this episode, I wondered if Adam really thought the soup was that great.

Most overrated? Has to be The Chinese Restaurant. People keep telling me that this was the "Seinfeldiest" episode. It sucked! Elaine in particular seemed WAY off in this episode. But I'm probably alone on this one.

I'm trying to think of an overrated episode, but what can I say, I loved most of the popular ones, but if I had to choose an overrated episode I might go with "The Sponge." I was watching this episode recently (in syndication) and while watching it, yes I did laugh, but not as much as I did the first time I watched it. Many episodes, like the Soup Nazi, The Contest, and dare I say The Yada Yada have me laughing as much as the first time I see it the third or fourth viewing of it...

And as far as the Contest being used to often as the descriptive episode of the series, well I will agree with that, it was funny and classic, it certainly wasn't the best episode of Seinfeld (I still say the Boyfriend was the best, and the Hot Tub second best, but that's my opinion) but yes the media needs to take a new scene from an episode to describe Seinfeld. Still it isn't Seinfeld's fault that the scene is used so much, it is the fault of the news programs or magazines who use the episode as the descriptive episode, unless the show has a role in selecting it's descriptive episode...

Well, I'm with you on the Chinese Restaurant episode. It's one of the episodes that I don't watch in syndication. The Parking Garage episode is also way overrated.
